hi new to this board so excuss the dumb questions ,,i have owned a 5550 for years and just bought a hardly used m15x-r1,,works primo but i notice the keyboard does not light up ,,i thought it might be the command center program but there is no adjustments in the command center for the keyboards ,,,were there some sold without lighted keyboards ,,and can i buy a lighted keyboard to install in it ???

No, every Alienware system has LED backlighting. Try a power drain maybe? Unplug, remove the battery, hold down the power button for 10 seconds and then put it all back together. Otherwise maybe you need to reinstall the Command Centre program. Hoping this is a small fix and you haven't got a duff keyboard...

can you fry the mother board with the command center off the resource disk with the m15xr1? if so maybe the previous owner did this.If that is the case you need to replace your mother board to get back lighting working i guess this is a worst case scenario...And if you do reinstall command center remember to use the dell site not your resource disk.

The older version of the m15x had an option to buy with or without backlit keyboard. I dunno if r1 is the one we are all using, or if that is the old one.

If there are no options for the lights in the command center, I would say what the above guy said is likely. The lights should be the first thing that it shows when you open it. Also press FN+F11 just to see if they come one.

Ironhead, can you tell us the spec of your machine? Or just tell us whether it's an "All Powerful" or an "Area-51"? Every All Powerful has the backlit keyboard. I'm not so sure about the Area-51. Either way, if it is the Area-51 you've posted in the wrong forum.

This may be a stupid solution by right click on the alienhead in the toolbar at the bottom right of the screen. Is "go dark" checked?
