My 260M has been throttling down recently so emailed dell who are happy to replace my card on Monday. I asked if i could instead have the 5850 as its the cheaper of the two cards and it doesn't have the throttling issue. They replied asking for 50GBP for the card. This worth it? I know its a better card than my 260, just thought i wouldn't have to pay out. What you rekon?

    Cheers

    James

Sorry, that's simply WRONG. This has been discussed thoroughly here and a quick look at the benchmark thread would show you how things are. Notebookcheck isn't the ultimate guide for mobile GPUs... not at all imo.

It's worth every penny, the 5850m is way superior to the 260m, it even kills the 460m and the latest drivers improved the performance even more. In addition to this it's DX11 capable, GO FOR IT!!! You won't regret it, it'll give you a huge performance boost!!!

^^^ Couldn't agree more. That's a fantastic offer for a vastly superior card.

Well 50 gbp is 83 USD. I didn't say that AMD is not better than Nvidia I was talking about adding 50 pounds for it. But if you say so...

Get the 5850M. It's more powerful and more efficient. I had severe throttling problems with the 260M, but my 5850M hasn't given me an problems. £50 is a bargain. Go for it. You will not regret it.

Think its too late now. Didn't get a reply from dell bloke. Got a tech coming Monday, probably with another 260M. If that ends up throttling I rekon i'll end up getting the 5850, well if i haven't got the funds together for that beast 6970M ;-)
