i would like to make a decision for which alienware should i buy,...but i really confusing with this spec..
spec I is:
~~~~~~~~
Intel® Core i7-740QM Quad Core Processor 1.6GHz (2.8GHz Turbo Mode, 6MB Cache)
1GB NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 260M
15.6-inch WideFHD 1920x1080 (1080p) WLED
4GB Dual Channel DDR3 at 1333MHz
500GB SATAII 7,200RPM
Slot-Load Dual Layer DVD Burner (DVD+-RW, CD-RW)
spec II is:
~~~~~~~~
Intel® Core i7-740QM Quad Core Processor 1.6GHz (2.8GHz Turbo Mode, 6MB Cache)
1GB GDDR5 ATI Radeon Mobility HD 5850
15.6-inch WideHD+ 1600x900 (900p) WLED
4GB Dual Channel DDR3 at 1333MHz
500GB SATAII 7,200RPM
Slot-Load Dual Layer DVD Burner (DVD+-RW, CD-RW)
the question is:
1)is that true if nvidia geforce card within i7 in any clock speed (even for i7 740QM) is effected with throtelling problem??
2)i've been reading about M11x weak hinge creaking/cracking problem, is this problem is affected too within AW M15X?? then, how tight the chassing is remind that M15X Is usually heat while doing any hard processing??
btw sorry for my poor english, english is not my mother tounge....thanks in advance..

get the second one and you will love it for many years to come
Is this new or refurb if you can customize it get the 9 cell battery, intel 5300n card, and decide if you want the high res display or not -

yeah any i7 or higher processor you will experience that possibly on the i5 as well but since it has a lower TDP you have a lower chance of experiencing throttling.
Since you are building new then save the money and headache of throttling and get the ati 5850 and put the savings towards SSD. Do not get SSD from dell but buy it aftermarket. Skip out on bluray and get that aftermarket to you can always mod the computer and have dual hard drives and move the dvd rom to an external slim usb enclosure. -
i7-620m if you are gonna use it heavily on gaming.

btw thanks for the reply faiz23...
wow...is that problem, throtelling problem is happen within any laptop brands?? or is this only effected in AW laptop?? sorry,..i am newbie bro...
then i hope you give a feedback too with my second question,..

the throttling issue is due to the power restraints within the system and the nvidia card uses more power than the 5850m. The ati has 1gb GDDR5 ram where the 260m has 1gb GDDR3 ram so that makes a difference too in gaming and rendering. Also the 5850m is extremely easy to flash to the same specs as the big brother 5870m and responds amazingly well to overclocking and this is why it stomps the gtx260m and it is cheaper btw.
I am not sure about other manufacturer and their issue but every laptop has some sort of issues from power restraints, to heat, bad power jacks on motherboard and other issues like keyboard flex, mouse pad sensitivity (m15x =p).
THe m11x has the known issue as well for hinge and creaking and you will have this issue on the r2 as well it depends alot on usage and what i can tell is if you want the m11x you better get some sort of aftermarket or dell warranty to help you out. I only keep laptops 1-2 years and plan to get the whole assembly swapped out under warranty as soon as it is getting close to expiring.
The m15x i am not aware of any issues for the hinge in the new model from personal experience the m15x has solid hinges compared to the m11x.
The cooling system on the m15x is really good and has much lower temps compared to other manufacturer using the same specs or GPU. I would replace all thermal paste and thermal pads with aftermarket solution and it will drop temps another 10-15 degrees. -
thanks for the answer faiz23, it helps me out to make my final decisions....
help me to make a decisions...
