I mean, I have two GPU cards now. the GTX 460M is the original. then I upgraded to GTX 980M. I still keep two two graphics. If you are interested, I can give it too at an adjusted price. -
AW m17x R4 is quite big and heavy but in terms of performance I left quite fierce and satisfying. while you don't care about how hard it is to choose it or AW 17 R1. btw if you really choose the size of 17 inch I think there will be many choices that use MXM Slot. -
Upgrade paths on the AW17 R1 and m17x R4 are pretty much the same.

IIRC 680m was the limit? My knowledge is sketchy on that model.
@Raidriar would likely be able to say more than me though -
yes but the 2nd price still far to much.. -
Not worth buying either now that 2018 is almost done -
-
Yes,
While you CAN game with 780m/m290x you will already see the writing on the wall as far as its lifespan is concerned. If its not your daily driver and your just collecting and pushing the limits of older machines then thats one thing. However if you're looking for a daily driver to keep as long as possible I would stick with the R4 or the Ranger. -
These old machines have tricks you have to learn, don't have warranty, and parts are hard / expensive to come by -
If this was the M17x R2 I would wholeheartedly agree. -
so i shouldn't go with the r3 and go for the r4 and what about the m15x?
-
R4
R3 GPU options are weak
M15x CPU is really weak for a new daily driver. -
M15x is too old forget about it. CPU is slow even when overclocked, no native usb 3.0, battery life is crap, no SATA 3 speed. Only thing going for the M15x is build quality, which I found to be better than M17x R3/R4.
M17x R4 is best choice. Alienware 17 is distant second, mainly due to the cancerous NVRAM it uses to store settings, can be trouble sometimes if you overclock or undervolt. M17x R4 has way more ports available to use, Alienware 17 build quality is arguably better than M17x R4 -

In M15x the whole chassis is aluminum except for the palmrest -
-
ok i think i should go with and m15x bc quad core,ddr3,2gb ddr5 card. correct me on any of this.
-
Lol good luck dude

Even back when 2nd Generation i7 was released it was significantly better than First gen, now add 8 years of aging on top and you get a dog of a processor.
Its a nice collectors item to benchmark with and modify, but its a terrible first choice as a daily driver. 970m is essentially the limit on that machine, vs 1070 on both the R4 and Ranger.
But hey, its your money, Ill sleep the same regardless. But if you cant see anything bad about it, then you need to read up more on PC hardware in general because I think you're lacking in peripheral hardware knowledge to really understand where the m15x sits these days.Mastermind5200 likes this. -
