Please help me. I'm going nuts here. I have been having this issue for a couple of months now. My video card sometimes freezes, then recovers, and sometimes the screen just flickers red and I need to do as hard shutdown. Sometimes I get the bsod. I frequently get this error message.
Display Driver stopped responding and has recovered. Display Driver nvidia windows kernel mode driver version 257.38 stopped responding and has succesfully recovered.
I have reinstalled the driver from the dell site several times, using driver sweep to get all the components. I have used an older driver version supplied by someone on this site. I have installed the most recent driver from nvidia's site.
Dell has also , through tech support, reinstalled the drivers. I also reformatted my hard drive and reinstalled windows.
Dell has replaced my video card 3 times, the most recent time they also replaced the motherboard.
Now, Dell wants to give me a system replacement. Seems like overkill. I googled this problem, but couldn't really make heads or tails out of the answers. I'd love some help. Thanks in advance.

Change to newer drivers? Check the nvidia site. 260.99's are good for your card.

tell them its a 260m problem and only a 460m can fix it
worth a shot since they did replace the 260m multiply times already. -
Hey guys,
I have a Dell Alienware M15x and am now receiving the Driver 257.38 stopped responding while browsing the web and also receiving Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has successfully recovered." while playing games. This is really annoying as it happens daily.
I have checked the GPU temp and it hovers around 70 degrees.
People here have mentioned hardware replacements, has this solved the problem? Which piece of hardware was replaced? -
Windows kernel mode driver version 257.38 has stopped working
