I'd like a running list of what GPUs give native fan control. I will be upgrading my m17x R2 (same EC as the M15x), so I would like to know what my options are for upgrading the 4870 x2 to a better card

    5850M, 5870M, 6970M, 6990M, 7970M
    M4000, M5950, M6000, M6100, M8900
    260M, 460M, 680M, 970M, 980M
    K1000M, K2000M, K3100M, K4000M

There are more, but these are the ones i'm 100% sure of having native fan control in M15x...
The M17x R2 may have same EC, but it supports much less GPU's and even less have native fan control.

Looks like all quadro cards from dell based on kepler will have native fan control on M15x.

Oh, and added a K3100M, but i was unable to get it working with drivers installed, must have been a bad card, but it did have native fan control :)

The 8970M I have does not. It just runs at 100% all the time. Better than not running at all I guess.

Sent from my overpriced Galaxy S6 Edge +

Non Dell cards on M15x mostly will run like this.
Same was with Clevo 6970M and i was using HWiNFO to controll GPU fan. Dell 6990M was running good with native fan controll (but card was too hot to leave it on its own native temperature/rpm table =/ ).

P.S. As i remember right, 240M from Acer 5739G was running with native fan control on M15x. BTW, Dell's M4000 running on 5739G with native fan control too.

Are you sure it runs at max (4500RPM) and not on medium (2500RPM) that's what usually happens from my experience, and is the same behavior i have seen with Dell M290X in M15x

Not sure! It sounds pretty loud. I will have to check it and report back.

    Update:
I checked and the GPU fan on the 8970M runs at around 4500 RPM and stays there. It can be controlled via hwinfo64.

Clevo Radeon HD 6970M also shows as Dell on M15x:

Do you have a picture of it? that would be an easy way to know. Or a vBIOS version could also be an indicator.
