What spec are you looking to get?

Didn't purchase mine through them got it from the web site. But dealing with order and customer support was terrible when I ordered a gfx card. One guy even said I couldn't upgrade the laptop in any way!

I'm looking at getting the base CPU and buying a 920xm from ebay, but either that or a 740qm. 4Gb RAM, 5850, 1080p, 9cell, 500GB HDD comes out around 1439 GBP with the 740qm.
That's appalling! Tech support with Alienware seems to vary an awful lot, from your experiences to people getting techs sent out to replace their graphics card for them! Hope I get a decent rep when I ring up...

Don't get me wrong the alienware tech support is outstanding in my experience! It's just the other depts that let it down. Unfortunatly you can't get through to them until you've bought one. Lol

I purchased mine over the phone and got an EPP (or EEP?) discount for being a student, they didn't ask for any proof.

generally they just do that, sort of hard to verify. Mine asked me what school and that's all, no student ID or anything

I got approx 17% off. 8% EPP (through SCI - student), then said my max budget was £2000, he gave me a price of £2030. It was coming to ~£2450 no discount.

That would come in really handy, thank you. If I get my Dad to order it, (he's doing a doctorate at the moment so is technically a student :D ) then I should be able to get the 10%, and if they press for more info then he will be able to provide them with it.
Great, thanks for clearing this up! :)

Thanks for telling me Accuse, my dad is the gifted haggler in the family, I'll let him handle it and hopefully I'll be able to afford the i7 920xm I want :D

I ordered my previous m15x through phone and they gave me around 12-15% discount. you really need not be a student or anything tbh it doesnt matter at all... just ask them for a dicounted quote and ONLY if u are happy ask them to send u a proforma invoice with the quote else if u arent happy with the price ask the rep not to send it coz once u get that pdf file its actually connected to ur postcode (where u want ur laptop to be delivered) so when u call again to try and get hold of some one else, they ask you your postcode and they will know u already got a quote from someone else hence no further discounts.
Ofcourse its just a suggestion. ;-)
