Hi Everyone,
I seem to get stuttering sometimes. Its not when using a particular application but pretty random. First I thought it was my SSD but then I kept my task manager open and everytime my laptop stuttered I got spikes for my CPU usage.
I have no idea why this is happening. Core parking is disabled just to rule it out as well but the stutter still happens.
I have attached a screenshot.

Are you sure your Stealth Mode isn't on?

This sounds like a problem I have aswell.
When watching video or playing games picture will lagg, and sound will stutter and sound distorted.
Dell has been trying to fix this issue for me for a while. So far they have done this: New mobo, new HDD, new gpu and cpu fan and heatsink and 2 need gpu.
The problem still persists :/ -
Try checking the processes in Task Manager sort then by Memory and then CPU, check which program is causing that fluctuation, and trying "End Process Tree" for that one. I hope that will temporarily help your problem. And then you search on-line for that particular file which is causing an issue
Note: Please check if that Program is Windows Program or what before you end that. -

I am using Intel 320 300GB SSD.
I have tried to see which application was hogging up the CPU during stuttering but no success.
I am not too sure but this is just a hunch. I remember using skype video chat last night and using chrome to surf at the same time and stuttering seemed to have happened more frequently ~once per min. I usually use chrome and itunes combination and stuttering happens once every few mins (around once in 30 mins or so).
Stuttering also happens the moments I start a game but i rarely get stuttering during gaming. But its there 90% of the time the moment I start the game.
Made sure stealth mode is not on. -
Have you tried anyother Hdd before that? or this SSD came with the Laptop?
-
try boot in safe mode or reinstall
-
I had the SSD from before and it was fine. I have noticed stuttering while watching a DVD, using external harddrive, USB drive etc as well.
I have reformatted my laptop already but the stuttering still exists. I could try safe mode but how will I find out whats causing it. -
Are any of you using McAfee Antivirus? If so, that is most likely the culprit.
http://forum.notebookreview.com/ali...k-latest-mcafee-update-causing-slowdowns.html
The culprit process in task manager will be "mcsvhost.exe" (remember to view processes from all users) -
I am having the same problem and using McAfee too. Hmm. I have stuttering when sometimes playing videos on internet. Spike, video slowdown and sound distorted.
Hope nothing wrong on hardware side. -
Yes I am using McAfee. I have like a year left on it. You could be right about McAfee being the culprit.
-
It was the last straw. After that i just uninstalled it and have been lag/stutter free again .. boot up is also faster ;-P -
Yeah this McAfee thing is messy, I have figured that the best antivirus for our systems in MICROSOFT SECURITY ESSENTIALS , besides we do have registered windows so why dont we take full advantage of the facilities? Uninstall anyother security softwares and try essentials.

+1 saadleo, jus that when i got the lappy, i dont wanna waste the antivirus subcription which was supposedly free (but its price included in the AW price). And its true that it started 1-2 month ago. I didnt notice anything weird b4 that. Also, i had to disable the hardware acceleration to watch youtube videos, before this i dont.

i've got 1.5 years left on my subscription ... screw it .. it isnt worth it .. mcafee is crap anyway .. slows the machine down ..
im using MS Sec Essentials too, coz its free, but it isnt the best .. there are better AVs out there ... but if you follow the golden rules of keeping yourself virus free, you should be fine ...
1) dont open dodgy looking emails/attachments from persons unknown or even from friends
2) dont download/run untrusted/dodgy/unknown software
3) avoid dodgy/untrusted/unknown websites...
easy ;-) -
Thanks. Will install mcafee soon and see if it makes any difference.

Hey y'all. I came across this thread doing a Google search of this issue that I have also been having with my new XPS 15 laptop. Audio distorted when I was surfing the web (e.g. when new page loaded). Needless to say very frustrating! Never had this problem with my ancient Dell desktop running Windows XP. On a whim I disabled McAfee firewall and antivirus real time scanning. Problem disappeared. Despite my "free" subscription that is good for more than another year I guess I will find a different security solution. Maybe I should harass Dell and see if they will give me a refund or give me Norton Internet Security (that always worked great for me previously on other machines) for free.

mcafee is the virus!
-
Did you try uninstalling all the antivirus?
Try that for a day or two.
Then install NOD32 or as already recommended: Microsoft Security Essentials. -
Finally uninstalled Mcafee. Installed Microsoft Security Essentials. Now to wait. Would report back in a day or two.
-
Waiting hopefully the problem will be solved. GL
-
Happy to report that the problem seems to be gone. When it was stuttering the most (skype + browsing), no stuttering at all now. Everything is smooth as it used to be.
-
Hmm, i'll try that... you just uninstall McAfee?
Edit: i meant, just uninstall McAfee only -
just do it! ;-)

Omg. This is so lame.
I had my m15x repaired 3 times because of this, and since they couldnt fix it I got all my money back.
This means that Im gonna buy a gaming desktop and a small portable laptop.
I've enjoyed all your help in here. Good luck in the future -
^^ Oh man... Well I cant say anything ryt now, coz my laptop is dead too, and the worst case is that my 1 year warranty expired 10 Months ago ((.. and so I really dont know wat to do (
