I was hoping to use Speedfan to kick my fan speeds up a bit, since my temps are running low 50's at idle (Throttlestop). I am planning to repaste yet again, but it would be nice to have more control. However, Speedfan either doesn't find my fans or cause crashes - neither of which is desirable.
Do you know of any other programs that can control fan speed?
Thanks,
Joe

HWinfo might work well for you.

Here is a nice handy picture. In the Sensor panel there is a small Fan Symbol that opens the panel to the left where you can set fan speeds by clicking on Custom Auto!
A quick google search of M15x fan control HWInfo will give you further instructions.

Many thanks! I had completely missed that feature - and it works well.

Hi, I have an m15x-r1 with last BIOS X36. I just installed Windows 7 Pro 64-bit and I'm having issues with the laptop over-heating...
When I use the ThermoFan utility included with the Keyboard Manager driver I see that the CPU fan doesn't run at all until the temperature gets over 50! I don't think it works reliably when the computer is idling as I've left it on overnight and the computer restarts itself.
I installed HWinfo64 and set Custom Auto fan speeds and the program shows that it's switching to the correct fan speed however ThermoFan doesn't show the fan speeds that I've set (still shows the old behavior). I don't think HWinfo is working as I've even set the fan speed manually and yet I can't hear the fan come on and ThermoFan shows 0RPM.
I've also installed SpeedFan and when I boot that up it only shows the temperatures in the box to the right (no fan speeds), and the configuration options are blank for setting the fan speeds.
What is going on? I thought X36 was supposed to fix the heat issues. In fact from my understanding X36 was supposed to have the fans running all the time, but the CPU fan doesn't come on unless CPU temp hits 50 and then it goes to max RPMs??? -

You should post in the Area 51 forum as this forum is for the M15x (dell version) not the first m15x area 51 notebook.
Speedfan crashes - Is there another fan control program?
