I think im going to upgrade the memory in my M15x.
Have a few questions
1. What type of memory is it ?
2. Which brand is the best today ?
3. Is there big difference in timings etc, what is the fastest
4. Size ? 4,6 or 8 gb ?
5. Easy to install ?

It's DDR3 So dimm pc3 10600 /1333 mhz, Kingston and HyperX are popular brands, Alienware uses Samsung if I remember it correctly. I don't think there's a big difference between the brands. Look out for a decent price and buy it. When you upgrade I recommend going to 8 gb (2x4).
I think there's a rating for the speed beside the 1333Mhz, but I cant remeber the name of this. That's the only thing I'd look out for (and a low price of course) I'll let you know when I remember it.
Changing the RAM is very easy, it's even described in the user manual.
Edit: Here we go, check out this post (and thread): http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware-m15x/518374-ram-upgrade-option-best.html#post6707693 -
<- got two 4g PC3-10600 Crucial sticks in my M15x. Got it for only 107 bucks.
I've always had positive experiences with Crucial.
PC3-8500 is also acceptable in your M15x. I know my default Samsung 2gig sticks were PC3-8500 -
so the m15x comes will pc3 10666, will the kingston hyperx pc3 12800 work????
-
Will RAM with higher speed than 1333MHz work? Like 1600MHz
-
It will work but it will still operate at 1333mhz.
-
No, only 1066 and 1333 is supported by the CPU.
The new sandy bridge cpus do support 1600.
Edit: widezu69 was faster -
Ah good to know, well i'll scratch that off my list, thanks for the help.
by the way what do u guys suggest??? -
your 6gb ram should be more then enough for the average user. you really won't see a difference between the 1066 or 1333 in dialy use.
