I've just picked up a used M15x which is in really good nick except for a scratch right in the middle of the plastic in front of the screen which is a bit annoying. It's not huge but now that I've seen it I can't stop seeing it, if that makes sense.

What I was wondering is has anyone had this happen and found a way to remove scratches to the screen with polishing or anything? Or alternatively, I don't mind replacing the screen cover if I could find where to get one from as I'm quite handy at taking laptops to bits.

    Thanks for any help.

You can call Dell and ask for a quote or you can buy it here. I purchased a GPU fan from them and it works great. The only problem is that it might take at least 1 week to arrive as they ship from Singapore. Hope this helps and good luck replacing the cover. :)

Edit: Service manual here just in case. (Page 71)

If you are gonna replace the screen anyway, you might wanna check the guide just a few posts down on how to get the rgb-screen

Brilliant, thanks very much for the advice. I'll look into finding a replacement bezel if I find the scratch too distracting.

Otherwise the machine is basically immaculate, shame the only scratch on it had to be there!

The problem with this is that the bezel is sort of glued onto the display itself with some hefty tape-like stuff. The bezel was never really meant to be replaced, that's why it's a hard item to find (there's not even directions to replace the bezel itself in the service manual). You'd be better off just waiting until you want to upgrade the whole screen, or just ignoring it, unfortunately.

You can replace it by heating the tape with a hair dryer and being very careful to lift the LCD out of the bezel, and then placing it into the new bezel, etc, but it's a pretty involved process ( see this thread).

I've found it's quite easy to ignore it as it only really shows up on a white background. Typical that the only scratch on the entire machine would have to be in the middle of the display!

Thanks for the advice, much appreciated.
