So silly me, I forgot my password and decided that it would be easiest to reinstall windows 7. The problem is that I can't seem to find all the drivers I need to get the thing up and running again. First off, on the disk that they gave me, the wifi card driver doesn't seem to work. I installed it, but I still can't use wifi at all, even after restarts and reinstalls. Second, there seems to be no Radeon 5850 driver on the disk, but there are nvidia 240 and 260m drivers. Last, I can't find any of the icons/wallpapers/etc that came with the laptop. Can anybody help me with any of these issues?

mmblegh I think I'm going to have to do another clean reinstall, everything is acting super weird...I found that site after I installed everything and nothing works right.

Nice catch hub. Probably saved him from a mobo replacement.

smiles politely, im just paying it forward.
i never did get to thank you inap, so here REP +1 -
So finally everything seems to work...except the lights...nothing glows anymore, and alienfx just shows up blank. Does anybody know what's wrong with it?
-
If You did call Dell immediately for a replacement. The CC in the resource disk will fry your motherboard and kill the lights. Well what're you waiting for? Move and call DELL
-
why would DELL have something like that on there driver discs?
It makes no sense and very stupid on there part, not to mention pissing off customers that dont know it does that.
I dont get it
Shame on DELL -
I guess Dell assumes people will always download the latest drivers for there machine before proceeding with a fresh install .... Bad assumption on Dells part though ....
-
Seriously. I did install it off the disk, so it's looking like I did fry the chip. Will they ship a replacement to me or do I have to send the whole thing in?
-
You might have an option to have a replacement shipped. I was not offered one because I hear they will try to repair it first before offering a replacement. They'll diagnose the problem remotely and pretty much set you up with a tech who will come and replace the motherboard for you.
-
I dunno, I live in Hawaii so that might not be an option.
-
Your lucky that you live in the U.S. There you'll get a replacement shipped. Hawaii is part U.S i think.

An update: they told me they could have a technician come and do it in hawaii, but I said no thanks and just asked if I could return for a refund. I apologize to anybody who thinks that this is not the right thing to do, but I think spending as much money as I did and having something break within 5 days of getting it despite the fact that I followed Dell's instructions (usually you expect those to work correctly) just doesn't bode well. The lady I talked to in customer service was very understanding, no restocking fee and they paid for shipping back.

I believe that to be the least frustrating choice, good move.
