    Pushing the M15x :D

Another 100 points more at 3dM11 than the last run I posted... I now have a cheap device laying around to measure the power draw. At the combined test the system used between 160 and 170W (±10W ... it's a cheap device).

The clocks were 830/1100 and the CPU at 22/22/23/24 and 76/62 TDP/TDC.

When pushing the card above 830 MHz I got a lot of driver crashes during the last tests of 3DM11...

Sry, it always crashes randomly during the test... black screen, power off... weird. But I have a run at different clocks from earlier this evening when I coincidentally thought I try a 3dMark06 for a change...

Here you go, hope it helps:

I'll try again when I have time, it's weird that it doesn't work... vantage and 3dM11 usually work perfectly at 750/1100... I'll let you know in case I'm successful later.

Edit: I have no experience with 3dMark06, but doesn't my score seems to be low as well?

06 really isn't my thing either. just trying to see if there is something wrong with my 06 run cause i saw someone running it only @ 750/1100 with a 2820 and it killed my 880/1200 run. thanks for the run slv

In 3D mark06 the more you OC the CPU the higher the score. Vantage is more GPU dependable ;)

yeah i know that but the difference between 2720 vs 2820 isn't that big but scores shows much differently. oh well guess i will have to wait till i get a 2920xm before doing 06 benches again, heheh.

svl7 are those clocks on the 3dmark11 stable for gaming? If so then your about 820 points above me. Dang!

No artefacts at all, and it never crashed at those clocks, though I have only benched with such high settings so far. There's no need to OC the card for gaming atm, really :D

You can add some more points to the 820, I've just made a run that's a little higher... the clocks are a bit lower but I pushed the CPU a bit more. I think I can still improve it a bit...

And just for fun I did a vantage CPU run... I wanted to improve my score already a while ago... I think that's pretty much the limit for my 920xm, can't get more than 26x across all the cores without BSOD. Maybe with an additional cooling... I dunno. But that's all I can get from the CPU atm I guess.

Sorry Inap, no more 3DMark06 today... I guess I need to reinstall, it crashes randomly all the time during the test... In case I get around to successful run a 06 during the next time I'll post it here, I guess that's the most easy way to make sure you see it :D

Most of the sensors from HWinfo were disabled, so not every temp there is correct, but yeah, it was a "window sill run", it's still a bit chilly here at nighttime, so this helps to keep the temps down.

svl7, try installing Futuremark Systeminfo v.4.0, which is designed in part to eliminate the issues where '06, Vantage and 3dM11 have problems working in the same environment. If that fails, uninstalling and reinstalling '06 nearly always works.

Thanks for the Kil-o-watt report. Surprised it's not even higher, but clearly bumping up against the limits.

Haven't fixed 3dM06 yet, but I quickly run a vantage to see whether I can accomplish 15k :D ...and even got a new personal CPU record.

Almost as high as Inaps M17x R3... :D It seems I can't get past 830-840MHz core, too bad...

Hope dttran83 will post some benches as well. I'm curious whether he can push his card harder.

TDP/TDC was 115/90. The TDC doesn't seem to have any effect anyway... I was surprised by the CPU score as well...
The power draw was about about 150-160W during the last CPU test, during the GPU tests about 130-140W. That's the great thing about the vantage, there's never a combined workload with CPU and GPU :D

Not a stupid question at all. About P2300 at stock clocks (625/1000) using the Performance settings with Cat 11.4 drivers. Heavily o/c'ed, it will do about P3100. CPU has relatively little effect.

My first vantage run at 750/950 with all four core at x25. TDC/TDP are at stock. All the game that I had test so far doesn't seem to show any throttling( finger cross). This is the clock that I game at and My max temp is 80C.

Scores have been updated again guys! If we get a few more guys running 6970m's in here I'll look at adding a section for the 6970m. Nice runs, keep em coming!

dttran83- I didn't include your run because you say you're running an OC'ed extreme cpu and didn't include anything at all to prove your settings or your cpu. Make another run with BOTH Gpu-z and Cpu-z in the shot and you'll be on the boards if it qualifies ;)

Aww... that's really mean. I was never able to push my 920xm above 26x across all cores... 27x results in a bluescreen during the test. The 940xm has a higher binning, which helps of course.

What were your settings on this 23k run?

The extra 150mV, TDP/TDC around 120/95, don't remember what the FSB was at, maybe 143MHz and 27X across all four cores. Although this wasn't with my 940XM, it was with my 920XM (ES). I could do the same with the 940XM though, if I could get the screen shot.

I think it was cause DR was using an M17x. Better cooling and more power. But still amazing nonetheless. About to buy my brother a M15x with 740qm and 460m as well. Tempted to get me a M17x R3 with his money and give him my M15x :p

I cannot run my 920xm at 27x in the M15x. It would do 27x in my Sager (at the very edge of its mobo power handling capability, resulting in two blown mobos before I bowed to the limitations), but it blue screens every time in the M15x. It can do settings like 28-28-25-25 or 28-27-26-26, but if 27 is set for the 4 cores parameter, it craps out with all the Doomsday warnings or, occasionally, just black screens out. Could be a power cut-out, but I suspect a BIOS limit, because it happens seemingly without regard to the power use, i.e., I can lock the video card down to idle levels (100/150), turn the screen down completely, turn off wifi, LAN card, etc., so that there is plenty of power available to the CPU, but run wPrime at 27x flat and it bombs out. Note that there is sufficient power to run the 920xm at 26x flat or higher interim settings (but less than 27x across the board) plus a maxxed out 5850m @ 900+/1100, so I can't buy a simple inadequate power conclusion. Have any of you guys been able to run a 920xm at 27x on all four cores in a M15x recently? I know it was once possible, but I suspect that Dell screwed the pooch in one of the recent BIOS's. Your thoughts? Any contrary experiences?

I should. Have never used any kind of auxiliary cooling with this M15x, which has held me back. Nearly all of my benching happens with it sitting flat on a coffee table while I am watching some sports event on TV. Need to get more serious to be competitive, but haven't been able to work it in yet. LOL.

How did you get that last Vantage CPU score (with the 6970)? That was incredible. What were your settings on that run?

No, your score is safe, Inap. I think I'm done without aux. cooling.

How's life in the R3 world? You were putting up some big numbers over there and at TI. I was sneaking up on a R3, but this business with the touch pad whatever puts me off. I hate that kind of cheap crap on an otherwise quality notebook, but it also gives you pause about the rest. Going to wait for the M18x, but not sure I'm ready for the hassle of Crossfire or SLI. Single card setups are sure easier to live with. I may punt and just throw a 6970 in the M15x to buy a few months while things sort themselves out with the M18x and the R3.

That was with TDP on 115 and TDC at 90 if I remember correctly (though the tdc doesn't have any influence it seems) Multi at 27-27-26-26. I had my machine on the window sill, it's still a bit chilly here during the night.

i'm already done with benching the r3, since there is no voltage change, there isn't much more i can do. i know the card can go higher clocks but without the voltage change i just end up getting lower scores the higher i push.

yeah the media button assembly isn't that great but looks like the M18x is gonna get something similar too. love the size of the M18x but like you i don't like dealing with the sli/cf stuff either. one of the reasons i went with the M15x in the first place. other then the media assembly the r3 has been pretty awesome, i have it flashed to 750/1000 and everything i play has been buttery smooth and temps are awesome.
