I have had trouble with the OSD software so try restarting or reinstalling it. It seems to crash more with this BIOS though.

The Revelator Notebook Prophet
-
Yup no problem with the OSD
-
Have you updated your gfx driver recently? Not all nvidia drivers support brightness changes. Or is it jut the OSD which doesnt appear? -
Only thing that's changed on my system recently was BIOS from A06-A07 and installation of the new Intel Turbo Boost Technology driver, been using Nvidia driver 258.96 before/after. After restarting a couple times it seems to have fixed itself, I wasn't trying ti fix it either since it wasn't a huge issue...
W
hen it wasn't working the OSD icons displayed properly but the screen just didn't dim/brighten when adjusting. So it wasn't OSD that was acting up, must have been the Nvidia driver? -
-
I'm not exactly sure since there was a serious lack of information on the Dell Drivers & Downloads website. I'm assuming it increases the functionality, stability, and support of the Turbo Boost Tech in our i5/i7 CPU's.
I also just installed the new Intel Rapid Storage Technology driver which seems to replace the old Intel Matrix Storage Manager stuff. -
I have had OSD act up before so it shows the icon and everything but it won't actually change the brightness. Try doing a power drain and it will work fine until it does the same thing again. Or even try uninstalling the program again and running ccleaner after you uninstall. Then try to reinstall OSD and let me know how that goes.

i upgraded the bios 2 hours ago and the temps idling seem to be the same, tried crysis warhead to see the effects and it seems to increase the fps in near 10 (amazing) and the max temp was 76 for my gtx260m
-
To be clear, this is not the same as the Intel Turbo Memory Card which is an old technology.

Did this for 2.5 hours.
Checked my temps quickly
CPU: Maxed at 53*C
GPU: 59*C
Woot woot! -
nice temps wish i had waited a few more weeks before buying this one.
-
now the throtling fix and it will become "All Powerful" ^^
-
Wow. .
I've found 50 CD's and they're all only recordable. Screw crappy low cost CD's. -
-
disaster after flashed this bios
ran battlefield bad company 2 avg is about 40-50fps
before was like 75-90 fps
tried to on/off vsync but still doesn't work
played gta 4 freezes so many times..
good thing about this bios is temp reduced about 5c
any idea how to downgrade my bios to A05? -
Dude, you must have like a desktop 5970 in your M15x.
Or are you just playing or medium or low?
I got like 30-40 FPS before, now I get 40-50 FPS on BFBC2 all high, no bloom, 2x AA, 1080p. Runs 4C cooler @ 750/1000 OC and 7C cooler when at stock clocks.
A07 is sweet. -

really i was getting 75fps easily but now..
40-50fps
that SUCKS
all was high no bloom and vsync but now i turning on/off vsync but still doesn't affecting anything..
thats weird =/ -
People get above 60fps in BFBC2, you guys should check drivers and BIOS version.
IMO 40-50fps isn't that bad in which case I don't think you can feel the difference anything about 29FPS. However still that doesn't explain why it is so. -
Breaking Brian Notebook Evangelist
Umm, anything over 40 FPS isnt really noticable. That combined with your 4*C drop in temps makes it worth it... And if its a steady 40-50FPS with no spikes/dips then I'd be pretty darn happy.
-
But wait, you guys can see 50-60 FPS average. My drivers are 10.7 and my bios is A07, what am I doing wrong?
According to notebook check the 5870 gets 33 FPS with all High, 1080P, 8x AF, 4x AA, HBAO. -
i think they are running lower dx level.
-
-
Try to use dx 9, my fps increased about 10fps
Mine won't goes bellow 40fps
But still prefer A05 bios..
Higher temp higher performance
Sadly flashed to a07 already -
you guys should make a habit of keeping your older bios. just in case you ever need to go back. if you want i have A05 and pretty much every other bios version backed up.
http://www.sendspace.com/file/plenac -
Can I flash them back!? That's cool
Ill make some test before I flash it back -
I think the A07 optimizes DX11 better and the other DXs a little worse, which may cause the low FPS problem in older DXs.
-
-
I still have all the bio version from A02 to A07. If anyone want the older version let me know and I will post it.
Running Bad Company 2 at DX9 will get you average of 70-90 fps. So it all depend on what DX version are you running. -
I believe you can run at those fps..
I'm running i7 720 gettting about 60-75 fps..
I think a05 is more powerful than a07 for my system
But yea a07 temp is colder than a05 -
electrosoft Perpetualist Matrixist
I could use the A06 BIOS to test a few things out.
Right now with A07:
Intel 82577lm Gigabit port isn't working. No matter which driver (Dell or Intel Pro) or fresh W7U install, I have a nice lovely exclamation mark over the device. Physical connection syncs fine (connect, Xmit lights), but no matter which driver I throw at it, it bonks out during the driver install and sits there with the exclamation mark. -
oh nooo
my gpu clocked at 750/1050
idles at 60c, reached 83c when playing bff2
before i flashed this bios, i was using A05 even i clocked up to 900/1100 never ever reached 80c -
Breaking Brian Notebook Evangelist
Might help out your temps quite a bit. -
60ºC is too low for the card, can you show us a screenshot?
-
@ Other Guy, BTW, 83C isn't that bad. I still get up to 86C when I'm running Crysis @ 800/1000. You should be content with anything under 90C or so. -
-
Breaking Brian Notebook Evangelist
-
83 isn't that bad I was getting near 100 with my old notebook
-
Breaking Brian Notebook Evangelist
Ok, so heres my temps after playing crysis/ doing a brief stress test... temps maxed at 70ish for stress test and remained low for crysis.
Sorry for the img quality... my iphone is teh lame. -
you should check out the snipping tool that comes with w7, works great and really easy to use. -
Breaking Brian Notebook Evangelist
-
That's a similar tempt that I got when I was using a05 bios
But now.. Damn 10c more -
nice temps then, with the lot of ceramique that the dell tech put in my gpu, the maximun is 83 when playing DIRT2, with crysis warhead 76/77, strange
-

-
Ceramique ain't bad dude. Anything under 90C should be good. -
any guide to re paste the thermal paste?
whats the name for the best paste? =/ -
Breaking Brian Notebook Evangelist
Get a good brand. I recommend Arctic Cooling MX-2, MX-3 or MX-4... I wouldn't recommend Arctic Silver 5 simply because if your not 100000% careful ONE microscopic drop could fry your motherboard, where as MX-* is completely safe proof.
Once your heat-sink is off use Isopropyl alcohol (I recommend 99%, its 5 bucks for a huge bottle at your local pharmacy) and q tips to dissolve and remove the stock thermal pastes (from the chip AND heat-sink)...
Once your heatsink is spotless (and chip) proceed to put the new thermal paste on...
For the M15x I recommend you use the line method... The rice grain isn't long enough to fully spread the CPU ( Go the LENGHT of the chip... its rectangular.... So yea).
[
This is the CPU with the stock paste.... Just HORRIBLE *Note the long thermal PADS on the side, do NOT remove those or get paste/ dirt on them, I repeat, DO NOT*
This is a clean GPU
Once you use just a wee bit of paste on both the GPU and CPU place down your heat-sink and rotate it about 2 degree's left and right... Lift up your CPU/GPU, check how it spread (a nice thin layer)... After that, re apply it the same was, repeat above steps but DON'T check it this time.... Following inaps steps, re secure your heat-sinks and reassemble your PC...
Test your temperatures. If your idling around 45-53*C for CPU then your good. If your idling arlound 40-45*C for GPU then your good! -
-
Any brand name paste that is nin-conductive that you find should be fine. The temperature differences are negligible at best and the real temperature differences found in laptops are because of each laptop being every so slightly different.
