    if there is stuff on your hdd that you simply can't afford to lose or would be a pain in the to reinstall, than yes backup your entire hdd(i did), i also disabled my password its just logical, really. from my experience it seems like they basically disassembled my system and tested various components individually, as alot of parts had a sticker of my tag number on them, my laptop came back fully functional and cosmetically perfect. but some people have had bad experiences such as physical damage to there laptop after they receive it from the repair depot. so i would advice u to take pics of your laptop to show as prove that, the damage was not caused by you but by there repair depot
