What are you doing when it happens? Or is it just random? I'll try and experiment on mine to see if the issue pops up.

Maybe the solution is a really easy fix. What happens if you stop using Windows 10? Is the black screen problem fixed?

I think I mentioned in another post that I was having similar black screen issues with W10 and my 460M GTX. When I went back to W7, the problem never reoccurred. My black screens weren't random though. If I recall correctly it only happened whenever I resumed from standby.

its only started lately tho mate. It never done it before i started tinkering. So i think its a driver or its maybe the overclock causing it. I made a little video.

Im using amd crimson driver 16.2 and im overclocked at 1000/1250 with volt mod

    EDIT:

I done a clean install of the drivers, after using a driver cleaner, and installed the latest crimsons driver which is 16.2.1. No change

    EDIT:
Flashed stock bios and no ball. Same black screen issue

    EDIT:
Ok played with display settings, and setting laptop to sleep and wake when lid is closed and open. Worked first time. Still black screen issues with it set to do nothing....... :( Last thing is a old driver i think

    EDIT:
It was crimson. I downgraded to like 15.11 before crimson. Problem gone. So now i have a choice of the latest drivers and performance or be able to close the lid.

Think ill fire it on sleep mode when closing the lid. Its quick enough for me to load back up doing that. Shame tho. What a pain that was

@thegh0sts had lots of problems with W10 black screen with 980M in his Alienware 17. He finally quit trying to use W10. Not sure if he has ever bothered taking a second stab at it or not. Even when it doesn't have issues like black screen problems, it really sucks in physics (CPU) performance. If I count the time I started using it at the start of the Windows 10 Insider program they've had about 2 years to get it right and it's still not very good.

Well turns out its amd thats my cause. Old driver works. So i have a pre crimson and its golden. But now i have to choose, latest drivers and best performance, or being able to close it over and open it again lol.

Think i might go back to crimson and just set it to sleep, its quick enough to be usable again for me

    EDIT:

EEVERY F**** TIME. no brightness controls. Reg mod time

Well fellas crimson 16.3 dropped this morning and i have to say im a very Happy bunny. I done the driver cleaner, then installed the drivers, done a red edit for the brightness and set the laptop to do nothing when lid was closed.

And lone behold it worked. Crappy crimson drivers lol

Does it offer better benchmark scores?

ADDED: Googled memory chips tag and found that it is rated at 5000MHz effective so 1250MHz clocks! Of course there is a chance our GPU has tightened timings so it's your risk but... In this case 1300 seems like light overclocking and 1400MHz clocks someone tried before are understandeable.

    ATTENTION! ATTENTION!

Right now on eBay there is an auction lot of Dell AMD m6000 for JUST 50$ current bid and it's in ONLY 6+ HOURS LEFT! New link with another item, looks like he has few of them.

If you live in the USA or Canada and planned to buy m6000 but couldn't finally make a jump that' your chance.
Guys, let me suggest that if somebody writes here that he is going to bid on it so that other NBR users wouldn't try to outbid OR negotiate here whose final price will be higher so he would bid on it because if not then at the end final price may be close to usual retail one. However it is just my suggestion

P.S. No, it's NOT my lot of course, I do not promote anything :)
ADDED: added link. I also found another auction on m6000 which ends in 10 days... hmmm... perhaps I even decide to bid on it though :)

So I got another m6000 today. It's a Dell card with the stock x-bracket installed, and to my surprise, the bracket is thicker than the x-bracket that came with my 240m and my 460m cards. It's the same shape but much thicker which causes a problem when installed in the M15X. Not sure if anyone else noticed this but when screwing down the card with this thicker bracket, the card bends and causes a bow at the screw area. This may or may not be an issue, but pcb flexing is usually not a good thing, especially for high heat components. I took the thicker bracket off and put the thinner bracket from my 460m on there. I also filed down the screw posts a bit. I'm getting ~40C idle and 70C load.

Can anyone share their idle and load temps?

Did you heat the x-bracket by a hairdryer while pushing into the holes by philips screwdriver or used another technique? How difficult it was and how much time was taken?
I'm still awaiting for my card sitting without gaming laptop.

Mine was the same bracket slightly thicker didn't cause any issues tho I was careful when screwing it down not much flex at all

    Idel at stock I'm 30 load 60

    Oc to 1000/1200 in 30 -70

    Great little card

I didn't heat up the tape this time, but I would recommend doing so. I used a small philips screwdriver to push down the screw posts until the tape started to separate. It took me about a minute or two. Removing the bracket on my 7970m was harder. Keep an eye on the bracket thickness. I attached a crude drawing of the bending I'm talking about.

Edit: The thicker bracket is ~1.5mm thick while the brackets that came with my M15X cards are ~1mm thick. This is just the metal, without the plastic insulating layer. Doesn't seem like much of a difference, but it is enough to cause the bending.

I just used gpuz mate, when i game on it i dont really play massively intense games just like starcraft and sim city currently. And it gets sat on a desk when i do so. Quite happy with the temps.

Mines is a little unstable since 16.3 drivers tho, i get the occasional display driver crash. But never happens on 15.15 drivers, only the beta ones.

my card is say was similar to your diagram, Been using mines for a good few months like that now tho and its been perfectly fine touch wood. I might buy a new xbracket but i doubt it. Im aiming towards a 7970m i think shortly

Didnt you just take one out ?

I'm waiting on some K5 Pro thermal pad replacement paste to use with this card. 1mm pads seem to be too thick and even my cheap Chinese .5mm pads are too thick in some areas. Problem is the .5mm pads do not compress at all. It's like sticking a piece of rubber there. Because of this lack of compression, the heatspreader on the heatsink is hindered from making solid contact with the die.

I also noticed another issue with these cards which was also an issue with my 7970m. It's actually not an issue with the cards themselves but with the M15X heatsink. The larger of the two heatpipes on the heatsink actually presses down on a specific VRM and this results in the heatsink not pressing down evenly on the GPU. It also causes the heatsink to sit at an angle when mounted on the card. The pipe in question needs to be flattened slightly to achieve clearance from this problem VRM. Your heatsink may not have this problem but both my M15X heatsinks had this issue with the 7970m and the m6000 respectively. I tried to illustrate this with my professional MS Paint skills below :D.

I'll take some pics of mine if u want I used the pads that was on the original heatsink and i get no pipe contact on the vrms but I can take pics

Why did u switch out the 7970s

The stock green pads are .75mm I think and compress very well from what I remember so you should be fine with those. Good thermal pads should compress but where I live I can't find good ones (3M, Thermal Grizzly, etc). I'd have to order them online and shipping can get crazy. Are you using pads on the VRMs and transistors?

Not sure what you meant by switching out the 7970. I have two M15X machines. One has the 7970m. I got the m6000 for my 2nd one.

ah right i though u swapped the 7970 for a m6000 or something along those lines.

I only have the pads what were there where they were man so probably just on the mem chips , i could be wrong tho.

On my m6000 the VRMs are literally touching the heatsink so not even .5mm pads will fit there. I'll probably use the K5 pro on those or I may just use a dab of regular thermal paste.

I think the stock M15X heatsink only had pads for the memory modules. However, as we start using more powerful cards, I think that other components should be cooled as well. Unfortunately the temp values we get are only for the GPU die itself so we don't know how hot other components are getting, but I'd rather pad everything that generates heat to be on the safe side. Here's the recommended pad placement for the 7970m. I used 5mm Akasa silicone pads for the transistors which are those little black chips around the VRMs. Everything else is using 1mm Arctic pads, except one of the chokes where I stacked two 1mm pads.

EDIT: Btw, I know we call the grey blocks VRMs for the sake of simplicity, but those are chokes (or inductors). The VRM is actually a bunch of components including the chokes, capacitors, transistors, and ICs. :D

Anyone running a modded vbios on their m6000? I'm currently running it at 1000/1250Mhz clocks at 1.150V and it seems stable and runs fairly cool. I used the Vbios Editor tool linked on page 11. I decided to just do the overclock and overvolt via the vbios and not use MSI Afterburner. Anyone care to share their settings?

i just used the tool to do mines as well, have it set at a little more vcore, 1000/ 1250 i think currently. But i had to drop it to 950 with the 16.3 drivers for some reason, the driver just kept crashing

And on 16.4 i couldnt get brightness controls. I can on 16.3 right enough. I done use ms afterburner no more. Boosts to whatever i set it to

I was able to push this card to 1040/1300Mhz @ 1.175 stable. Scored P4378 on 3DMark11. I then ran a 3Dmark06 test loop of all tests repeated 5 times and it didn't crash at all, but temps topped at 83C. I then tested it at 1000/1250 @ 1.150V. 3DMark11 scores P4254 this way, and the same 3DMark06 test runs without a hitch, and temps top out at a more comfortable 71C.

While you are searching for limits of your GPU i am waiting for 18-th of April. That's the last day of response of carrothead mustard who sold me this GPU on... wait for it... wait for it...
    On 1-st of March!
...and now refuses to refund giving me truth-free excuses of "My dear friend, we can't refund, our account is locked by PayPal, you have to escalate the case".
What a shmuck! He isn't even real seller! He is a middleman, and actual seller didn't even ship the GPU! But I still couldn't open the case on eBay because this eJoke didn't let me to open a case until 12-th of April, last date of estimated delivery time... even though "seller" approved that there is no GPU shipped to me on 30-th of march!

Sorry for offtopic-related info, just I should have already have it 2 weeks ago while now the soonest i get it is the middle of May, after I get refund on 20-th of April if I'm lucky and buy it elsewhere. :frown:

Ran Firestrike and scored 2900 @ 1000/1250 clocks and 1.150 VDDC. Very impressive card considering the 6990m scores I've seen top out at 2678 while that card costs double the m6000 and runs hotter.

have to say im really happy with my card. Cant mind my voltages mate will get a chance to check laters i will.

Thats a a pain dude, i bought mines from ali express, was a little dear cause i paid dhl but was still cheaper than anything from the uk.

Im just glad windows 10 plays nice, i have the osd buttons and touchpad scroll working now :)

So im pretty happy. The having to mod the registry for brightness every update is a pain in the ass tho

To access this option, open the Control Panel by right-clicking the Start button and selecting Control Panel. Navigate to System and Security > System > Advanced system settings. Click the Hardware tab, click Device Installation Settings, and select the “No, let me choose what to do option.

I have an M6000 sitting on my desk waiting to be installed in my M15x. Does AMD use one driver package for all of their cards?

Not sure. I just chose the HD 7800 series from the notebook GPU list. I installed the Firepro Settings option and deselected those extra apps like that Gaming Evolved thing.

Edit: Yes, use MSIA Afterburner. :D

I started with Hobgoblinpie's post on page 11 of this thread.

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/m6000-7870m-gpu-thread.785735/page-11

I decided to not use Afterburner at all; instead I modified the clocks directly to the VBIOS. I also did not increase my voltage as much as he did. So far it is stable @ 1000MHz/1250MHz and @ 1.150VDDC.

    You'll need these tools:

    VBE7 Vbios Editor:

    http://www.techpowerup.com/forums/threads/vbe7-vbios-editor-for-radeon-hd-7000-series-cards.189089/

    ATI WinFlash:

    Here are my VBIOS settings:

Remember that flashing your Vbios (and overclocking in general) can be risky and I can't guarantee my settings will work for you so, USE IT AT YOUR OWN RISK!

Excellent! I saw the VBE7 Vbios Editor and wasn't sure if that would work with this card. Thank you!

I got my M6000 for $80.10 shipped. It should be a huge upgrade over the GTX 260M. :D
