Something to considerate...
Alienware's
1. Keyboard light shows and Audi's powerful look:thumbsup:
2. I got the 6-Cell Lithium-Ion Battery so that kinds of help with the computers heating
3. Media panel on Keyboard(above)
4. 2 headphone jacks
XPS...
1. Crappy look, limited keyboard ligths
2. Extreme thin almost like apple's
3. Comes with 65 WHr 9-cell Battery

isn't the nvidia 640m dedicated but onboard gpu ? if it is, i would stick with the alienware m15x personally. if not time to upgrade
thats my personal opinion. as for parts for the m15x, ebay has more than enough new/used/spare parts for them. -
If you like a full modulair system, m15x is one of the few that keep the faith:thumbsup:

If its not the 640 "LE" version, I would go for the XPS, hands down. Yes, the M15x is nice that it is modular and all, but having that newer tech with that spiffy processor... mmmm...
What is the screen resolution of the XPS? -

I would take the XPS without a thought. It really is a lot better in performance than the m15x. It is compared to one of the newest m14x's. I would take that and run! haha

Better than that M15x sure. However if you like playing games the M15x will DESTROY the XPS and M14x even in their latest editions.
The only thing that is faster on the XPS is the processor. However even the 920xm overclocked (potentially as fast as 2920xm stock and 3610qm) can practically keep pace with the 3612qm.
Also think about our environment. Every new computer need rare metals for the components. These rare metals are very hard to recover. You chuck your M15x you are wasting resources. Simply upgrade it. Even the 9 cell battery in M15x is a good option. I get about 3 hours out of mine even with a 920xm and 7970M plus the extra elevation at the back it gives the laptop really helps the intake airflow: meaning better cooling.
Compare my specs in sig to the XPS and I can't see a faster machine. The M15x can potentially go even further with up to 16GB RAM and next gen GPU's when they come out. This would be around the time the XPS starts to show it's age due to it's unupgradability and needs to be thrown away too!
Think hard before you chuck away what essentially is a great machine. All too often we are encouraged to throw away and buy new. I challenge this wasteful ideology. -

why don't you push for an alienware replacement instead of the xps.

Now, if I could get a complete Alienware replacement, which sounds reasonable to me given that you do have a full warranty on it, THAT would definately be the route to take!! And, don't take "no" for an answer!
