    I have
    i7 720QM
    6gb RAM
(currently) GTX 260m, will be replacing with GTX 560m when it arrives
    and Bios version A09

Do you guys think i'm going to have any problem with throttling?!

Is it necessary to buy the green card only? Will the blue one work? (sorry, I'm in the process of reading the whole thread, so I apologize if it's been said already)

EDIT: Nvm, got my answer... blue doesn't work...

Ahh so only the green will work? They have some blue ones on ebay for the $199, too good to be true ;)

I know, I saw some blue ones that were pretty cheap, but if they don't work then I'll stay away from them.

I messaged him, he said he could order some more in, I'm sure he will if you bug him enough haha.

Yeah I talked to several people who had to send theirs back, so I made 100% sure it was the green card, the blue one is for ASUS and do NOT work for Alienware.

Hi guys, would you recommend the Alienware vbios if the one preinstalled on the card is a newer version vbios, but not from Dell??

I would suggest updating only if there are issues with the present one, i.e throttling or temperatures. I did not update mine since there weren't any hiccups.

My GTX 560m just arrived after a very long wait.

everything installed perfectly, drivers, pads, paste and all.

I'm keeping an eye on my temperatures.

During windows experience refresh it got up to 65C so I will try a game or 2 and see what I can get out of it.

Believe it or, my little m15x seems to run quicker just all around since i've replaced the video card.

Ok, apparently I am an idiot. I have tried 3 times to mod the INF file and still get the error that it cant find my hardware when I try to install 296.10 My card is a Dell 560 from someones M17x
The hardware ID I get is:
    PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_1251&SUBSYS_02A21028&REV_A1
    PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_1251&SUBSYS_02A21028
    PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_1251&CC_030000
    PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_1251&CC_0300

Not sure what I am missing here, but any help would be appreciated.

dutchess63 had a file a couple pages back or so for the 296.10 drivers.......

anyways here is another file nvdm.inf, you might have to change the file extension to .inf and override the old nvdm.inf, in the Display.Driver folder

Hi guys, new question..... Lately i have played alot of Diablo 3, in multiplayer game i experience some throttling, (TechPowerup GPU-Z reports 85 degrees max temp......note: room temp were about 29 degrees) but havent experienced it in singleplayer mode yet. Looking on the temps i suspect its running a bit hot and maybe thats why it throttle? Should i repaste with these temps or try the Dell vbios maybe, or is this normal in these conditions?

Is there some of you playing Diablo 3 recording max temps?

    Thx

Same here, with IC diamond 7, my max temps is around 76-78. very high. Even with all setting on low, it is around 73-75.

I just pasted mine and I have the same settings as you and I still get throttling even on Civ5. I really think its the XM and not QM. Eurocom said the pasting would solve it but so far I think it hasn't.

On another note - has anyone used the new Nvidia driver? Do we need to do the fix it for it? If so has one got the fix file?

I noticed a post earlier mentioning the blue PCB MXM 560m's on ebay are compatible with Clevo notebooks. Just to provide some clarification. I just upgraded my Sager np8130 to a 560m (Clevo p150hm1). I bought a blue PCB card first but it did not work with my laptop. I returned the blue card and bought a green one. The green card works fine. The seller told me the blue 560m had come from a Toshiba laptop.

    Hi All,

I'm new here. I just want to thank dutchess63 as the advice given in this thread helped me in installing my new video card. I was able to change my card from GeForce GTX 260M to GeForce GTX 675M. Now my question is how to test if it made some improvement to my laptop?

    Thanks in advance!

675m in the M15x? Interesting, though I highly doubt that it works without vbios mod. For testing you can run some benchmarks (e.g. 3dMark11) or just play some games.
Can you attach a GPU-Z log of a game or similar?

I don't actually know if I did the right thing. I didn't flash any VBIOS. Anyways hope people can help me out to improve my system. Here is the log from GPU-Z while surfing and then playing Diablo III on all full settings.

By the way, how do I attach a file here?

This might help. I installed using of course a modded .inf file the NVIDIA 301.42 and played Diablo 3. I have made a log using GPU-Z from surfing to playing. See attached for the log. I never experienced slow down. Plus when I tried it using the old driver I used 3DMark11 can't run then it ran when I changed to 301.42 driver (See results in Capture 2). Also, I noticed that the GPU-Z displays my 0 for the memory size but after the driver change I got 4GB memory size (See Capture 3).

I am thinking of flashing the VBIOS using the GTX675M from a Dell card.

Hope you guys can help me enjoy this upgrade. I'm clueless on how to optimize this card.

Okay, I see. Your card only goes up to the lower 3d clocks, you never reach the 3d speeds... Let me fix this.

Btw, I don't know whether flashing the Dell vbios on a MSI card is a good idea, it might not work.

Alright, this will fix it. It's more a workaround than a proper fix, but that's the only thing possible at the moment without going into some more involved BIOS mods. This VBIOS mod is simpler.
It should allow your card to run at the full 3d speeds, but you will have trouble overclocking it since overclocking software usually only controls the 3d profile.

Anyway, I recommend flashing it (NVflash, DOS version) and then seeing how it works.
I made two versions, one with normal 3d voltage and one with a slightly lower voltage since you might run into power issues with this card and the M15x. It's up to you to decide what to use, I recommend testing the normal version first, even thought the other one should be stable as well.

If you later want to experiment you can still further lower the voltage... but you might loose stability by doing so.

Thanks for the time. Experimenting with the voltage is the thing I don't know about. I used NVFlash in DOS and flashed the 087v rom. I tested it with Diablo III and I observed some stuttering in the game. I observed that the stuttering happens when there are things happening like killing monsters, interacting with environments, etc.

I logged the normal use and the one with gaming. I attached the log.

    Thanks again!

How many times can I rep someone? hehehe :)

That is not the right card it should be a green one (If you have a m15x) also the 560m is ok but people seem to think the amd cards are more better. It's your call

Okay... the first part of the log doesn't look as expected, but looking at the date I guess that's part of an earlier log, before you flashed the modified vbios. There's a part in the log which shows the proper 3d clocks, that's good.
The stuttering could be a throttling issue, the GPU power supply circuits reach their limit when such a card is run in the M15x.
Can you run a 3dMark11 and post the score and GPU-Z log here? I just want to be sure that it's running as supposed.

    Hi,

New to the boards, here, and would like some help please.

I'm having serious problems with upgrading to the GTX560M with my M15X.

I removed all video drivers, installed the 296.10 drivers and used the modded nvdm.inf file contained in this thread.

Ran 3D Mark 06, and getting 3 FPS! Had to close it down. Heat isn't an issue, 41 deg C.

Windows experience has gone down from 5.9 with the 260M, to 2.8.

What drivers / inf file are you guys using?

    I am at A09 Bios.

    My hardware ID: PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_1251&SUBSYS_02A21028&REV_A1

I didn't want to go and post my entire .inf if it's unrelated.

    Any help appreciated.

Trying the 280.26 drivers now as I gather they are more likely to work.

Can someone tell me which inf file I'm supposed to be editing, and what should I add - I can't understand the hardware trick, I don't see any corresponding lines in both drivers I've tried so far (silly noob).

    My hardware ID: PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_1251&SUBSYS_02A21028&REV_A1

I read every post on this board while attempting to mod drivers. Dutchess' post on page 3 worked for me (big thanks btw). I modded the nvac file in 295.73. After that did the same for 301.42. Still struggle running Civ V but Diablo runs like a champ. Big improvement over the 260m.

Thanks Mastotron. I read all the posts too, but it hasn't helped.

I don't know which drivers Dutchess is referring to. None of the nvdm.inf files I've looked at, contain the same lines hers do.

The modified nvwi.inf from laptopvideo2go.com already contains an entry for DEV_1251:

    %NVIDIA_DEV.1251.01% = Section101, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_1251

    and: NVIDIA_DEV.1251.01 = "NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560M"

I have adapted the 280.26 driver, to include the following lines in nvdm.inf

    [NVIDIA_SetA_Devices.NTamd64.6.0]

    NVIDIA_DEV.1251.01 = "NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560M "

The card is identified as a GTX 560M, the control panel and everything looks right. But when I go to test it against 3D Mark 06, I literally get 7FPS max.

One last attempt with the 295.73 drivers before the card goes up on eBay where I got it!

EDIT: 12400 3DMarks with NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560M(1x) and Intel Core i7-720QM Processor

Bog standard, using the latest 304.79 drivers, and the hardware ID added to the nvdm.inf.

Time to paste it and put on some thermal pads.

Another 4Gb Ram in the post, should liven things up a bit.

    Then comes the fun part...tweaking.
