Hi guys, thansk for come and read anyway!
Yesterday, after spending some good hours reading, I finally managed to work my HD5870M however, it only works when it wants. How so?
Sometimes the Alienware startup normally, others simply will not turn on and stays with SCR LK and CPS flashing and steady light with the NUM.
Last night I played all night, temps are fine while in desktop bout 50 ~ 60, and while playing 70 ~ ~ 85. I played BF3 for a few hours, with the ultra graphs with SPF 30 +, no problems to report.
But today, it just dont want startup, i dont know what to do anymore.
I just downgrade bios from A09 to A05, there's anyother things to the rum to perfect this 5870?

try re-seating the card again. I had one particular 5870 that had to be seated a certain way to get it to work properly. i used a bicycle playing card folded in half to shim the card to get it to work properly. it was weird, it need to be seated not fully all the way in to get it to work.

Couple questions for ya...
1- what vbios is on the card? is it still on the clevo vbios or have you flashed over a dellienware vbios?
2- is the system bios you are running modded or is it stock from dellienware?
3- have you tried the old card in it again since you started having issues with this card?
Let me know the answers to that and hopefully we can get ya somewhereinap likes this. -
I really dont know, but i dont change anything, so i belive its from clevo..
2- is the system bios you are running modded or is it stock from dellienware?
i'm using A05 downloaded from dellalienware
3- have you tried the old card in it again since you started having issues with this card?
I'm using the old card because the other is not working (5870M)
Let me know the answers to that and hopefully we can get ya somewhere -

First up update your system bios to A09. Latest revision.
The GPU should work. All GPUs work unless the GPU itself is faulty. The M15x is spectacularly MXM compatible.
Also 50-60C idle is a lot. The GPU should not be idling so high!. Check that your heatsink is properly touching the die. You should be getting worst case 40sC idle.
If you GPU happens to sometimes sit nicely with the heatsink it boots. If however when you move it the heatsink comes away from the card even slightly it would overheat in seconds and not POST.inap likes this. -
do you have another laptop to test if the 5870 is still working? sorry for not responding faster just been swamped with work and family.
oh snaps!!! the great dane is still around? btw still hate u bro, hahhaha -
Dane and Inap here... hahaha, well let me say 'hi' too, sup dudes?
@OP: Re-seat that card, re-paste and make sure the card makes proper die contact with the heatsink, like KoI said.
Also, got a pic of the card? Can't tell whether it's a Dell or Clevo or MSI version... Dell needs the old vbios to properly work in the M15x, else you get a corrupted screen, but you would have noticed that I guess.inap likes this. -
hhaha the dream team is here. but seriously they should just close down the M15x section and have people email you directly.lols
I hoping its bad seating too, since the card was working then nothing. -
