I first noticed it with Diablo 3, and I shelved that game for a bit anyway. Recently I decided to pick WoW up again, I was fine for two weeks, now all of the sudden today out of nowhere I will be playing WoW and about an hour or two into gaming my computer just shuts off. Screen goes blank, and I can't turn it on. One thing I noticed is that the Right side of the laptop gets extremely hot! The metal side, as well as the back where the vent and the metal heatsink fins are it gets EXTREMELY hot to the touch. I'm not sure what's going on as I've run speed fan at the time of the game play and the temps were as follows.
HD0: 59C
Core0:56C
Core1:53C
Core2:55C
Core3:54C
AMD 740 i4, with ATI 5850, 4 gig of Ram, recently upgraded. Any help is appreciated! Only thing I'm wondering is I am running with 2 browsers open and Ram is close to 70% usage with WoW and some other stuff open, could this be driving temps up?

Please check your graphics card temps as well. Graphics card is usually getting a lot more stress during gaming sessions than CPU. At least on M17X I have GPU with its fan on the right, which would explain extreme heat and CPU on the left. Always use the laptop on the hard flat surface like table and if you can get any air duster, blow the fan out. Running browsers alongside the game could only decrease your laptop's gaming potential (lower FPS), it would have a small impact on the temperatures of the GPU.

Are you sure your CPU is on the right side? I had a look at the official disassembly of M15X and on their unit it is on the left (when using the laptop). HD0 should be your GPU temp as you say and I still believe it should be the GPU's fault. Did you ever change thermal paste on CPU and GPU also is your laptop still in warranty? If you live in Europe EU laws give you more than 1 year cover manufacturer's usually offer.

the keyboard right side is the gpu, download gpu-z to check your temps, im sure you are due for a repaste and a good cleaning. i wouldnt use the lappy until you get the repaste done or you might damage the card

That's with WoW running. Ordered some Arctic 5 thermal compound and a kit for cleaning the GPU. -
honestly the temps don't look bad to me, click on log to file and play a wow again, while playing keep an eye on your gpu fan to make sure that your fan is working fine and that it constantly runs. if it shuts down again give it a minute to cool down and then check gpu z log file to see what your temps were spiking to. its either the fan going bad or you just need a good cleaning and repaste

If you need to, once you clean everything which is normally 90% of the problem, you could download HWinfo and control the fans manually if you like.

How do I set the fan speed via HWinfo? Mexic00ls I don't get it either. It's hovering at 85-89 C but won't go any higher. The only thing I've noticed is that the fan didn't kick on at all, but now it's functioning now that I'm not playing the game. Running about 65-75 RPM, hoping that re-seating the fan/heat sink when the thermal compound arrives will work. Otherwise I'm thinking it might be a faulty fan as well. Going to try HWinfo to see if I can control the fan speed.
I did have to recently tear down the entire laptop in order to reconnect the screen. I do remember some of the connectors for the monitor itself run along the piping of the heat sink. I'm wondering if that could have something to do with this? -
Once you download HWinfo and have it running, you'll see on the bottom a fan icon button. Click on it and you'll see a seperate screen open up where you can choose the fan speed with manual control.

I'm not finding a fan icon button.

I think that you need to speed up the fans manually in Diablo 3. Have heard there was an issue with that. Try HWInfo for that.
