Are you in Dalaran by chance? My M15x has a 720qm and GTX 260m and i have never reached 45fps there when it is populated, I normally hover close to 20fps once everything loads. My gpu load is only about 30% according to gpu-z and isn't throttling. I thought it was just WoW but if i can get 45 fps in Dalaran that would be great.

Thanks, it seems like turning stealth mode off may have fixed the problem; either that or when i did the power recycle. Another possible problem that is concerning me is my GPU is running at around 80-85 degrees during game play and hit 90 last night during a boss fight. Is this normal for my model? If not, how can i fix it? I tried using Rivatuner to play with my fan but I can't seem to find it, I also updated my bios with the bios located on myhive (M15x BIOS X36). I also have the force pixel shaders 1.1 or w/e option checked (sorry for any edits I'm just trying to remember everything I've done up to this point)

Yeah its Dalaran, I typically use max settings minus shadows and a few other ones. My gpu feel like it is real high ;/

I would redo your thermal paste with OCZ Freeze or MX-3 id go for OCZ Freeze as everyone else will tell you to.

According to GPUz my temps are in the mid 50c when i am in boss fights and dalaran. I thought maybe it was because of my cpu being a bottleneck so i watched under windows resource manager and doesn't appear to be under much stress. Why do i only get around 20fps if my cpu and gpu aren't being pushed to their respective limits?

You may have stealth mode on and there are many other reasons like what driver do you have etc..
But it sounds like you are experiencing throttling, you have 720qm and GTX260M right? This setup is like a throttling magnet :S

that is the info for my 260m. I've logged my gpu so im 99% sure it isnt throttling. Could it be my cpu? idk a good way to log its performance.

Are you using RivaTuner or something like that to fix the clocks? (as they are above default ones)

I did that last night and it seemed to make a huge difference. My temp peaked at 81, avg 74ish last night after playing the game for 3.5 hours. Getting the old thermal paste off was a pain, it was really caked on there; it took me an hour or more to get it off. Any tips for getting it off better? I tried alcohol (40%) and qtips and it didn't seem to work as well as I saw in a few videos

normally the alcohol percentage has to be 70% or higher. the higher the better it will clean.

Try running the diagnostic from the resource disk. See if that can pin point something.

yeah go ahead and call dell, blue screens can be caused by so many things so very hard to pin point, alot of trouble shooting is needed.

My M15x is freezing a lot recently. Just a few minutes ago, I was reinstalling MW2 and it instructed me to take out the disk. I pressed the ejected button and the DVD didn't eject and everything just froze. Then I felt the bottom of my computer right under the touchpad and it was REALLY hot. Do you think I could have a faulty HDD causing random freezing?

Just started the install where it left off. This time no problem. Could it be because of my HDD or Optical Drive overheating?

My hard drive just hit 53C after another 10-12 minutes of MW2 install...
    Is this safe?

Edit: Nvm, found out it's safe. Ejected with no problem, but this time I pressed the eject button after I heard the DVD stop spinning. Before, I attempted to eject when the DVD was still spinning.
Maybe it has something to do with that?

yeah it kinda strange, when ejecting a disk the whole sysetem would seem to lock up untill the disk is finally ejected out, kinda lame but i don't use the optical that much so its not a big deal.

Yep. I also got another problem, but I'm sure it's a audio driver problem. Randomly, the speakers or headphones get quieter than usual and then goes back to LOUD mode. Any of you experience this?
Does this have anything to do with audio enhancements?

    A07 stops WMM freezing. :D

i've been using the dell beta driver, seems better then 10.7 but if you wish to have the 10.7 download it from the ati website. make sure you download the little exe. it should be the first download its 1.1mb. run the exe. and it will download the driver for you. once downloaded, run the install but cancel it after it extracts all the files. then go modify the config. from false to true. then rerun the install exe.

    hi!

i tried playing some games on my home theater system by connecting my m15x to my av receiver via dp/hdmi but looks like it's not able to output via surround (either dolby or dts).
is this a known limitation of the system? in my previous laptop, i would just go to advanced and choose dolby digital there.
in the m15x, i can only select the 16-bit options.

    thanks!

edit: nm. turns out i didn't have the realtek ati hdmi drivers installed. that fixed it. thanks!

    Hey Guys,
So I finally got my 5850 installed. Now here something I noticed. (May have occurred on my 260m but jsut noticed this now)

When i load World of Warcraft in windowed Full screen mode i get 20 fps. But if i change it to non windowed and then back again i get a steady 60 fps (or in the 100's with v sync off) (Vice versa is the same thing from non windowed to windowed and back causes proper fps.)

Pretty annoying that i need to change my screen from 1 mode to another to get my proper fps.

    Any ideas?

Ok, this is driving me batty:

M15x A07 BIOS. Clean install (#3), tried WU, Dell and Intel Pro Gigabit drivers for the 82577LM Gigabit port, and all bonk out during install and won't install correctly and I'm left with a nice, pretty exclamation mark over my device.

Physical layer is established (connect and xmit lights are active), but the driver just goes left field everytime during installation.

I don't know if I'm missing a massive, "duh," issue or if there is a way to manually enable/disable ethernet (outside of BIOS, which it is enabled).

Even tried BIOS reset and Power Drain.

can you go into device manager and look for the Ethernet controller in network connectors. and go to properties and see if it is enabled.
