Check temps on the GPU and CPU using HWMonitor.or HWInfo or GPU-Z. If it's heating up then it may cause those issues. It could also need cleaning on the fan vents...or the card is just turning bad. Check for spyware also.

You can try running a memory test using memtest86+ on a NON windows environment. Also try re-seating the ram and the GPU. (pull out the ram/gpu and put it back in) You can also test the hdd pref in a NON windows environment too using tools from your hdd company. I also RECOMMEND you do this BEFORE testing the ram and hdd.) Try checking temps of your GPU/CPU using HWInfo. Try checking the thermal paste is fresh and not dry. Try checking if the fan vents are clear from dust and that they are running properly. If all these are okay, maybe there might be a GPU/board issue or you can try formatting windows. But I would look into these steps first. If you need help looking for tools to test these, try looking for "Ultimate Boot CD" Good luck!

    hi guys ,
I have a problem with my m15x in some games like LOL , rapplez , Tera ,GUILDWARS 2 and minecraft have such weird lag that happen randomly for about 3 seconds which cause an increasing in the ping , i am using wireless network .

Solutions that i tried it and it not worked at all :
1- i tried to connect to internet by the cable .
2- formatting my device twice .
    3- updating all drivers .

my device it is cleaned well , and i clean it regularly every 3 weeks at most .

    Alienware M15x
    Intel Core i7 720QM (1.6Ghz -...)
    8 GB ram
    500 GB HDD
    Nvidia GTX 260m
    the regular 150 W ac adapter .
battery 6 cells ( Plugged in and not charging )>>

so from searching the forums i think that the problem is from the adapter , so i have to buy a 210W , but i am not very sure from that ,,is it right ?

    I hope someone helps me :( .

    no , I am using win 7 .

    extra information :

when the lag happens , everything is moving in the game except my character (online games) , like in league of legends minions and other players are moving , but my character tries to move but it cant , and it returns to the base which means that i have logged out .

same thing in Tera , the monsters fight me but for 3 seconds approximately i cant move my character and this happens always which makes playing games so miserable.

I have fast internet connection , but i dont know what is the problem .

Try a different keyboard/mouse. Also check CPU usage. It it's really high, it can cause issues.

    this is the video :

    AWm15X - YouTube

when i used the recorder my fps dropped from 60 to 40 in this video , usually i have from 60-70 fps in high options .

    CPU usage pic :

I am alive aliveee :elvis: , thanks man , thanks very much , I haven't know that i have to disable the WiFi to use the cable connection

I have take a time to try this method in more than one game to be sure and it has solved the problem :) , i think i have this problem for about 2 years .

but I have a question now about the WiFi driver i have update it to the last version but the problem still there , so what i can do if i want to use the wireless rather than the cable ?

should i change the WiFi card ? "like some guys in this forum , i think they have a WiFi card have a name of Killer or something" .

and thank u gotmilk70 for your effort .

In that case try a new WiFi card. I have no experience with killer wireless-n cards so I can't help you with information about that.

Thanks! Glad to see you found the issue. You should look into getting the Intel Centrino Ultimate-N 6300 card. It works well with the M15x and is pretty cheap on amazon. That is what I use currently.

    ok , thanks .

I think that I must pay approximately $800  to full upgrade my m15x -CPU + GPU + WiFi+ PSU- without considering the hdd and the ram , I think it is worth , is it ? :D

You could get one hell of a Gaming Desktop for $800 that would smoke even a full of the range AW 17 (probably). I wouldn't spend that much now on this aging beast.

My m15x has started randomly restarting every few hours - the power just cuts out and it immediately boots up again. WhoCrashed isn't detecting it at all, and my battery seems fine (which was my first thought).

I have installed new ram a couple of weeks ago, but this has just started in the last day or so.

    Any thoughts at all?

Does this happen while gaming? Check if your stealth mode is on. Did you try the Alienautopsy diagnostics? also try removing the ram stick and putting it back in.. try also a good anti virus program, some years back one of my laptops had a loop in loop out virus, basically you enter windows and loops you back out, similar virus perhaps..

When did you last do a paste job on the cpu? Its also possible it shuts down when the cpu overheats..

I have the same hardware ID but it doesn't mention Sony anywhere. My driver is from Microsoft and its from 2006.
Try uninstalling driver and then getting windows to install driver.

    Hi guys! :hi2:

I've had the M15x since 2009 and the battery has sadly died and will no longer charge- the computer doesn't even recognise that it's even attached anymore.
Recently there have been instanced where the battery refused to charge (Plugged in, Not charging), but previously wiggling the power cord or restarting the laptop fixed that. Because of this, it leads me to think that the battery has just reached the (much overdue) end of its life-cycle.

Does anyone know of any retailers that still sell the M15x battery? Even though I am finally retiring the M15x for a new Alienware 17, I'd like a working battery for it since now if the power cable is nudged the computer loses power and shuts down... and I can't seem to find it anywhere; probably because the laptop stopped selling a couple of years ago now.

Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks :)

I found loads of M15x Batteries on eBay in about 10 seconds
    alienware m15x battery | eBay

You might also have a faulty PSU from the sounds of the nudges, plugged in and not charging etc. Wiggling a power cord is not a good idea!

Hi, I am using the m15x and I have done many upgrades to this machine.
I am currently running: Nvidia Gtx 670m, intel i7 940xm, 16Gb of ram, and Windows 8.1.
I just recently upgraded to the i7 940xm, and ever since the installation of this processor I have noticed that if I go to system properties it is only recognizing 8 Gb of ram. Does anyone know why this might be happening?
    Cpu-z detects all 16gb.
Also, in the BIOS it says that there is 0 mb of memory in dock one and two, but while running it shows 7.99 gb usable of 8.
