It doesn't matter which way I tell it to sleep--from the start menu, closing the lid, fn+F1--every time I've tried it today, my computer goes to sleep like normal and then immediately loads up and starts looking for my face. Is anyone else having this problem? I had some new windows updates installed and I'm afraid they might be causing the issue. I also installed a new HP printer, but I don't know why that would have anything to do with it. I can do a restore, but I'd rather not if possible.
Thanks in advance for any advice

I'm seeing something similar. I close the laptop screen and it goes into sleep mode. I in turn go to sleep. I wake up and it's on...
As the OP has a different model notebook would I be right to assume that a Window Update may have caused some havoc? -
while using another computer with XP, a Logitech wireless mouse caused the same problem. I suggest that you google or search "answers.com" for the problem. Good luck.

it would also help if you post your specs.

This similar problem was happening to me too for a while... I ended up doing a fresh install of windows though (for other reasons) and it stopped.
I never figured out what was doing it. -
If you have a external keyboard or mouse connect to your laptop then all you need to do is go into your device manager->keyboard->Hid keyboard device->double click it->power management-> uncheck the box that said allow this device to wake up the computer. Do the same for the mouse and make sure to go through all the hid keyboard device. I think there 3 you have to uncheck for keyboard and two for the mouse.

bumping this up....helped my same exact problem and saved a windows reinstall for this trivial problem
for me, inside Device Manager there was 2 HID keyboards(ignore the other without 'HID') and 3 mouses(?mice). 1 of the 3 mouse have no power management option so i just tick off the other 2.
Works perfectly now -
Hmm i thought they came ticked by default, but will keep this solution in mind when i need id

I just did a reformat of my system recently and forgot all the little bugs and fixes I did to fix this problem last time.
But I'm having the same issue and I've unchecked the items in both keyboards and mice to no avail. In fact, they were unchecked by default.
Any other suggestions? I can't imagine it's a Windows issue. I re installed the OS during the reformat.
