Okay.. This is for anyone who has the problem with their M15x where their system does not resume from hibernate or sleep.. only a black screen comes up which results in you having to power off manually & boot up normally.

Well, I found out the solution to the problem by using the program, DriverMax.. What I found was that an update for a driver causes this issue.

If you update this driver: Intel(R) 5 Series/3400 Series Chipset Family SMBus Controller - 3B30 to v6.7.0.3 which was released on 19 Jan 2010 then.. you will get the "black screen from hibernate/sleep problem" on your M15x.

So, basically.. don't update Intel(R) 5 Series/3400 Series Chipset Family SMBus Controller - 3B30 to v6.7.0.3, Stay on v6.1.7601.17514 (default version after factory restoring Windows)

If you currently have this "black screen from hibernate/sleep" issue, then the only solution for you is to either use system restore to restore from a restore point that was made before you updated the driver.. or restore windows to factory defaults settings, and then after you've done that, make sure that you do not update to that new driver.. 'cause it will break your hibernate/sleep feature.

It toke me quite a bit of time to find the driver that was causing the problem as I installed each one one by one, and then put the laptop to sleep/hibernate each time & eventually I found the culprit :D

    Thanks for reading & I hope I helped :)

very nice ... good job finding that problem!

I used to have a similiar issue, but the black screen goes away once Win7 starts up.

I used to think it was stuck/hung because of the black screen, but that was because I have a bios password enabled at startup, so it was waiting for me to key in my password! Once i keyed in my password and let the M15x finish booting, win7 would eventually load =)
