To my knowledge, the AMD Display driver listed above (again, NOT the VBIOS), should be fine with any other Dell AMD GPU - so you 5730 owners should be ok with this driver as well.
Post problems, observations, questions, etc. I'm sure AW will be monitoring this release.

Smooth, easy installation for both vbios_A02 and the Dell 10.8 (8.763) drivers with no need for workarounds or removal of previous driver (I installed over an ATI 10.8 driver set). Performance is virtually identical in 3dMark06 and Vantage, but there is a somewhat greater tendency to crash at higher clocks (had to reflash to complete runs at 900/1100). All in all, a non-event so far. Remember that installing this vbios will reset all clocks or voltages to stock (625/1000/1.0v, etc), removing any tweaks made to the prior vbios.
-
I'm in a "tweaking" mood, I'm going to load this up now. Also try out some different drivers, currently using the Dell version that came on my CD.
Curious to play around, thus far everything is beyond expectations.
If it's not broken, break it, right? -
Done, so far, so good. Will run some benchmarks here to see how she fair's.

The Revelator Notebook Prophet
Looking forward to your results and experience.

man this has to pop up on a busy work day. heheheh hopefully have some time to test this baby out.

The Revelator Notebook Prophet
Wondered where you were. Let us know what you think when you have time to jump in, but you're not really missing much so far as I can see. On the other hand, no new problems either.
-
just downloaded and installed everything. like you said it was a breeze to install and i didn't uninstall the old driver or nothing.
prolly do some benches later in the evening or something after a quick flash to up the voltage. -
ok i sneaked away a did a single vantage run. i tried 990 on the core, i couldn't do it before on the older vbios, maxed was 985 on older vbios. but this time it ran all the way through and looked very stable doing so. so i'm gaving 2 thumbs up for this newer vbios and driver.
i also need to mention that i modded the new vbios to 1.15v @ 750/1050
and ran the bench @ 990/1100.
who needs a 5870 when you can push 990 on a 5850, heheheheheAttached Files:

is that on A/C???....Good score but temps are too low...jealous =((
-
yeah using the companies AC unit. my wife would kill me if i did this at home, hehehehe.
also wow can temps be too low, isn't the lower the better. have to run it on AC because i flashed it to 1.15v and at 990/1100 i think my laptop would melt, heheh -
no that makes sense with temps being that low on MAX when doing a bench that high since you are on A/C...I know you sold of your NZXT cryo and either way no notebook cooler will get your temps that low lolz...nice score i just loaded new bios and new drivers so gonna play around and see what i can run....only setting stable on this new card is 850/1100 @ 1.15. 905/1100 will make the driver crash and reset and 920 or higher on clock results on black or white screen and freeze.
-
wow thats strange so far i'm noticing no one else pushing the gpu as high as i do. i know someone out there must have similar result to me. because this is my 2nd 5850 and it performs the same as my last. and also did it in 2 separate systems.
-
I installed the vbios and the driver and my catalyst version is showing as 10.6, not 10.8 as you have in your picture above, which is the version I was on before. Am I missing something here? Shouldn't the driver show as 10.8 for me too?!
I wouldn't bother querying it but I reckon my framerates are down in Bad Co 2 as a result of upgrading
thanks

Many people are having problems on Battlefield Bad Company 2 with ATi drivers.
These drivers solve the problem of low performance in BC2? -
hi,
how do i check if the vbios has been installed properly?
if i go to the graphics hardware tab, it's showing the following:
BIOS Version 012.020.000.029
BIOS Part Number 113-B96102-105
BIOS Date 2010/05/18
that doesn't look right tho... -
The Revelator Notebook Prophet
That's it. You're done.
-
oic...
i got confused coz the bios ver wasn't matching what was on the dell site and it was dated may 2010.
thanks -
-
Mine also says Catalyst Version 10.6
"Driver Packaging Version 8.763-100810a-104118C-Dell
Catalyst Version 10.6
Provider ATI Technologies Inc.
2D Driver Version 8.01.01.1059
2D Driver File Path /REGISTRY/MACHINE/SYSTEM/ControlSet001/Control/CLASS/{4D36E968-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}/0000
Direct3D Version 8.14.10.0775
OpenGL Version 6.14.10.10151
Catalyst Control Center Version 2010.0810.2122.36491"
What did I do wrong? -
-
Mine says 10.7...
Weird. -

The Revelator Notebook Prophet
I don't know what's causing this incorrect Catalyst Version ID, but since all of the 10.8 drivers were installed properly, you might be able to fix it by reinstalling Catalyst Control Center. Not sure, but worth a try. Go to c:\dell\drivers\R28216\Packages\Apps\CCC and run setup.exe. That will uninstall the existing CCC and install (or reinstall) the Dell 10.8 version.
-
Mines also says 10.6 but the actual driver version matches 8.763 so I think its fine. Its probably just a bug that doesn't update the Catalyst Control Center. I bet if you install 10.8 drivers from AMD site and then install Dell drivers you would have 10.8.

Hi Guys,
Dell upgraded my M15x to the 5850 a couple of weeks ago and ever since then whenever i play some games and then exit them back to windows, the screen brightness goes all dark. If i try turning the brightness up then it does nothing because it thinks that its already on full. I have tried the latest Vbios and Drivers as recommend on this thread but im still having the issue.
One thing that i have noticed though is that if i press CTRL + ALT + DEL the brightness resets itself, or even if i log out and back in. Can anyone help me this one?
Thanks,
Ryan -
have you tried a power drain, heheheh
try disconnecting the cmos battery and do a power drain. i haven't seen this issue before, so just try this out first. -
Hey Inapp. Thanks for the advice, i tried removing the CMOS battery but it doesn't seem to have fixed it.
Does anyone else have any suggestions? -
Ryan, if you are up for it, try a uninstall of Command Center and re-install the current version of CC. See if that resolves the brightness issue.

Guys. Need help.
Tech guys just changed my GTX260M(Throttling problems) to ATI5850 then said to download the drivers and everything from the Dell website then "RAN AWAY". Great tech service!
Tried downloading the latest bios and drivers from the dell website, then I cant install them. When I clicked on the downloaded bios and driver, there was no reaction. Tried the power drain, multiple restart, ran as admin, etc but still no installation ran.
Eventually i went to the AMD website and downloaded the latest driver.
I noticed that its not the same as the one from Dell.
The bios is 012.020.000.002.000000 and the driver is atiumdag 8.762.0.0
Need help. Thanks -
Also default GPU Clock is 625. Memory is 1000.
Is this normal? -
The Revelator Notebook Prophet
You have the old vbios and need to update. When you double click on the downloaded vbios (A02) file, it unpacks a setup utility to C:\DELL\DRIVERS\R281553. Navigate to that folder and run setup.exe, which will launch a utility that will burn the A02 vbios file to a bootable memory stick or CD. Reboot from either the memory stick or CD, as applicable, and follow the directions.
625/1000 is the stock setting for a 5850. -
Any idea? -
The Revelator Notebook Prophet
Try downloading from here: UPShare.me.
You will have to unzip this file and then run to unpack. The file service doesn't permit uploading .exe files. -
Nah. Nevermind. Its the browsers fault. its not downloading everything. Got it working using IE. Thanks tho.
Woooo! ATI 5850! Any tips guys? =)
OC tools? Does EVGA work? -
use amd clock tools to oc i think version 9.26 is the one that is working with 5850.

Hi! I am still having very bad stuttering on the new Mx15 and have not even been able to play a game or even watch demos of games on steam....Here is my setup... intel i7 740 quad..4gb ddr3 ram 500 gb hard drive ssd. 7200 rpm.. .ati radeon 5850 1gb gddr 5......I have 8.683.2 driver vbios...I have not tried updating the driver yet so you thing this would help...on the Dell site it says to reinstall windows first before installing the new drivers...is that correct?I didn't remember anyone on here saying that...would it be best to try and download and run the cc cleaner and then do the update after the windows reinstall... you really have to reinstall windpows?.....also i have not done any backups on the computer yet,,,should I do that before or after the updates..these updates are a scarry thing to me....hope I don't mess everything up but really getting frustrated about all of this stuttering thing...someone on the forum also said it could be the flashplayer..lots of people have had trouble with that...mine is version 10....all help is much appreciated.....Honeycomb
-
no you do not need to reinstall windows, i don't understand why they would say that. also upgrade your laptop bios to A08 if you haven't done so. also the 5850 have a newer vbios for it too. let us know if you need any help doing any of this.
-
Ok, I see tht my current bios in GPU-z is all 0's wid ocassional 2 in between. So do i need to upgrade the vbios or i shld be fine without upgrading the bios?
Is there any way to check whether am using the latest bios or not. -
bio version should look like this if its the latest version. but if your not having any issues then sticking with the old one is fine.

-
yes normally the tech will take the old gpu with them or gave you a box to send it back in.
-
Is the bios a must have? Can I just dl the driver and be done with it?
-
no its not a must have, but it is recommended.
-
just checked my GPU-z and wanted to know if this is the newest Vbios
012.020.000.029.037518 -
Yep. That is exactly what I have.
