Does anyone know the response time (and any other info) of the 1080p FHD lcd panel in the M15x? I've googled it extensively.
I want to know what it is because I wouldn't want to buy an external monitor with a slower response time.

    Thanks :)

Thats the refresh rate, the response time is measured in milliseconds. Most monitors appear to have a response time ranging from 5ms to 8ms with high-end gaming monitors having 1ms.
I'd just like to know what I'm used to.

Is the price difference huge between 1ms and 8ms monitors?

Yes pretty huge, also you limit which panels you can buy. For example a really great IPS panel with amazing colours, contrast and even 1440p resolution is likely to have a response time of 6-8ms. Some say this causes ghosting and is no good for fast paced games.

The alternative is gaming orientated TN panels that can have response times of 1ms! But these lack colour depth and viewing distance.

I'd much prefer to get an IPS monitor but don't want the slow response time to bother me, hence why I want to know what the M15x LCD RT is.

Out of curiousity Fatboy, did you manage to find out the Response Time for the Stock Alienware M15x?

Sorry for the thread revive. I'm pretty interested in the result as well since I'm having trouble deciding whether or not the RT will affect my experience. I'm planning to purchase this/next month.

(I'm a gamer as well as an artist so it's difficult deciding between IPS or TN considering I take gaming as well as my art equally as serious.)
The best path for my career seems to be purchasing 2 monitors. ( one for gaming and one for digital art ) Although it doesn't seem like the smartest way to go when it comes to my crying wallet.

    Thanks for the input,

    Lucky

No information at all published on the web but I am fairly confident in saying the 1080p 15.6" M15x display is an IPS panel (viewing angles are good) with a response time between 5 and 6ms.
I know quite a bit about monitors. What is your budget? You can easily get an IPS monitor that has excellent colour range and can be used for gaming too. If you're in USA you should look at the overlord tempest monitor.
I want it!!! 120mhz 27" IPS gaming screen with the colours of a professional monitor!

    Ah, I see.

Haha, I'm actually out in Vancouver so we've got a slightly smaller selection when it comes to in-store and e-retailers with prices that are pretty jacked up when compared to US/UK prices, unfortunately.

I was probably just going to stick to the Asus VG248QE for gaming and swallow the pill with its 72% Gamut and *flinch* TN panel. I still find my M15x to be a decent alternative for Digital Art. I'm going to have to bear with it for another 4 months until I'm paid for one of my previous contracts. In the meantime I'll just have to finish getting all the parts for my upcoming desktop from-scratch build.

That Overlord Monitor looks absolutely nuts. Haha, too bad it would be around $587CAD to have one shipped over.

Do you already own the Asus monitor? That refresh rate is only worth it if you have the graphics horsepower to match. M15x won't be able to handle that unless you turn a lot of graphics options down.
AOC make some great 22" and 23" IPS monitors or Asus MX239H is a fine choice.
