Im just sitting back and watching for now...

I did enjoy the G73 in the time i had it though ...

If Alienware releases a new machine that does not sound like a leaf blower nor throttles all to heck, Stutters etc etc then i may take a look again at a laptop...

For now im just chilling on my desktop :)...

Was not a fan of the GPU temps with stock cooling...

Then i got the Clevo W870CU and had a good time with that but sold it recently for a good amount of $$$ so i took the money :)...

They were the norm of the high 80s low 90s and that was even after i repasted it etc....

The machine is not the friendliest to take apart if your not happy with your temps/results after a paste job and i love to tinker with my machines if i am not happy...

Either way though i loved alot of things about that machine other then temps and if they release a new one with a 480m i may look at again ...

I wont be the first person to have one like last time though lol... I will wait and see others results etc..

To be fair the DPC was shared by Clevo too since it was an nVidia problem and not Alienware. Throttling well yeah, unfortunately that's a reality for the M15x (only when coupled with a 260M) and I hear the R1. The R2 is near perfect, if it had a TDP unlocker for the CPU it would meet all my expectations.

No on is forgetting but you need to get back to it and beat my Asus score. ;)

BTW, what kind of cooling did you do when you hit that 17K score?

That's would force you to get back to benching. ;)

I flipped the M15x upside down, removed the cover and used a regular fan (like this one, only a lot crappier and cheaper) to blow onto the pc. That gave me some very neat cooling. Also I benched on an external monitor as the pc was upside down.

Later on I tried using an Airconditioner and holding the M15x in my hands, but I still couldnt beat that score

Right now exactly the same. Dell needs to issue a bios update before I can unleash the 940xm's true power.

I have a M15x coming tomorrow with a 5850 and im just going to flash it to 5870 speeds and be done with it ... I had toyed with the idea of the 5870 but in the end its not worth the hassle for the 75mhz and since i wont be benching it all day long the stock 5870 speeds will be fine... Might take it a notch above stock 5870 even and leave it there but at the end of the day its cheaper and essentially the same card unless your going for a record of some sort lol...

1080p 5850 i7 820 4gb RAM 500gig hd .. Might snag one one of those Seagate momentus thingys for it just for better boot times and remove the DVD drive while i am at it so i can have more space... Optical drives are just useless for the most part nowadays ...

    Yup!
That was my 2nd choice and just spending the extra $150 and getting it from DELL.
The Hybrid Momentus looks like it's the best of both worlds haven't seen too many tests on it but from the little I've seen it's a very good, almost twice as fast as a reg HDD but not much more expensive.
You think the 1080p screen is worth it if your not planning on playing BluRay discs on it?
Not interested in smashing benchmark records but just using it as my main gaming rig so I'm thinking of going with the lower res screen just to get a slight boost in performance.
Thing is I'm not sure if the gain is going to be worth it and just go with the full 1080p res.
Know if the lower res screen is as good as the higher res screen, quality wise?

Personally i would get the lower res screen myself.. I got this machine from a friend for a good deal but i would have preffered the lower res screen for performance reasons...

I wanted a 1600x900 screen for my Clevo when i had it so that should tell you something right there but couldnt find anything worth investing in...

The 1600x900 screen looked very nice to me at Microcenter when i saw it though i dont know which is brighter and better etc...

The momentus does look pretty decent especially for the price and i dont feel like investing into another SSD considering the best thing about SSDs for me is quicker boot times :)...

I had considered yanking out the 256gb patriot in my desktop to dump into the laptop but i know ill miss it to much there and i really dont want to blow that kind of cash on a drive .. I hear the M15x has horrible boot times though so i know ill be going insane lol...

You have a nice drive there though ...

Probably but until there is a bios update it will more than likely be set with a multi of 24 just like the 920.

English please here, and they can be kept cool just fine....just like the 920xm is

The only reason to not recommend someone buy a 940xm for the M15x would be the lack of BIOS support making it a 920xm in all practicality until a new BIOS is released to support it

So I Inap you think I should upgrade to the 940xm or just the 920xm? The 920xm is $460 and 940xm is $748 and if the 940xm is going to be support it later in the future with a bio update I rather get that.

Yeah the 940 should work out sooner or later. But 940 is maybe 10% better than 920. But I would perfect oem models, but will be expensive.

Even benchmarking there wouldn't be a difference because the systems still limit the 920s. Look at what the G73 can do with the 920.
