It requires the vbios as you said. Then it will automatically appear.

The Revelator Notebook Prophet
Know where a person might run up on an appropriate MSI vbios for a 5870 Mobility?
-
Here it is:
RapidShare: 1-CLICK Web hosting - Easy Filehosting
Just be warned this can brick your card.
Need to flash it by using "atiflash -p -fs 0 hd5870.rom" -
The Revelator Notebook Prophet
You know everything, Mandrake. Fair warning, and thanks.
-
Installed my 5870 and everything is great! My benchmark scores on 1920x1080...
3DMark Vantage: 0? It said 0 for some reason idk? But:
GPU Score: 4712
CPU Score: 10578
3DMark06 Score: 10234 -
As I'm playing and having fun all the lights in my system go out. I did a power drain and they all come back. I hope this is not the norm for this box.

The Revelator Notebook Prophet
LOL. You were nice and civilized about it. Haven't flashed yet, but had a look in RBE. Do you have PowerPlay working too?

i cannot get gpu-z to read and save the default bios...
@revelator yes he has powerplay working too on that bios... power play settings are...
700 1000 1.1v
500 1000 1.1v
200 500 0.95v
400 1000 0.95v -
The Revelator Notebook Prophet
Saw it was setup that way in the vbios, but didn't know if it would actually work with the laptop drivers.
Wizard, if you have one of Babyhemi's Clevo 5870, the latest official vbios can be downloaded straight from Clevo at ftp://usftp.clevo.com.tw/ALLBIOS/W8xxCU/. You have to use Chrome or Firefox to get in. With IE8, it will ask for a username/PW. Once in, click on "ATI_018.zip", and it downloads automatically.
You can also get it from Rapidshare D/L: RapidShare: 1-CLICK Web hosting - Easy Filehosting. -
Man wanna get off early from work just to try this, lol.
-
thewhitewizard Notebook Evangelist
hey revelator do u have the default bios because i cannot read it off the card..
for flashing the card... is it just the standard procedure with ati flash on usb stick and autoexec.txt with the command which mandrake gave... or there is something else for these cards...
EDIt: can i use ati winflash to flash the bios for this card... -
-
The Revelator Notebook Prophet
How cool is that. You've moved us further along with this card in one day than we've managed on our own in two months.
-
-
The Revelator Notebook Prophet
You can use Winflash, but atiflash from a dos-bootable USB stick is safer.
The atiflash command line that Mandrake referred to is for saving your existing vbios to a file. To flash the new bios, use "atiflash -p 0 HD5870.rom". -
Ran everything at 1280x1024 and here's what I got from my benchmarks:
3DMark Vantage : 8606
3DMark06 : 12386 -

is there a 64bit version of atiflash?
-
thewhitewizard Notebook Evangelist
atiflash is used with DOS... it will not work on 64bit windows...
-
-
The Revelator Notebook Prophet
-
ok thanks guys.
-
thewhitewizard Notebook Evangelist
Atiflash says adapter not found..
EDIT: think need to download the latest version -
The Revelator Notebook Prophet
I have never run into that. Try "atiflash -i". This should report information about the currently installed vbios.
Edit: Might be "atiflash -i 0. These "0's" are all zeros, not letter o's. -
thewhitewizard Notebook Evangelist
Have succesfully flashed the gpu...
-
dude awesome wiz. probably need your help to get me going, hahah
-
The Revelator Notebook Prophet
Wow !!!! +Rep to the Wizard. +Rep for Mandrake for making it possible. Report back when you've had a few minutes to play.

thewhitewizard Notebook Evangelist

EDIT: just saw ur post mandrake.. will do that... where is that file located... -
It's in the Config sub-directory where your ATI driver is installed.
-
thewhitewizard Notebook Evangelist
now do install just ccc from apps folder or the entire setup... did the complete install... i do not get overdrive...
-
The Revelator Notebook Prophet

The Revelator Notebook Prophet
Hey, PowerPlay downclocked to 200/500 when I told it to max battery life when plugged in. No other choices and not very useful per se, but at least it's communicating with the vbios.
-
-
The Revelator Notebook Prophet
No, just wondered how it might use some of the other modes/states included in the vbios. This seems perfectly stable so far. Gonna run a couple of benchs just to give it exercise, but lots to play with.
Is it going to require registry changes to get Overdrive working?
Edit: Overdrive is working!! Just had to click the right button. What a doofus. -
The Revelator Notebook Prophet
Whoa. Applied a very mild o/c of 750/1050 using Overdrive and ran 3dMark06. All went well during the test, but after finishing Deep Freeze and returning to the desktop, the screen immediately went nuts, jumping and jittering up and down and around with some distortion and color bleeding. Thought it was going to crash any moment, but it didn't before I shut it down. After rebooting, all returned to normal. Strange behavior. No overheating - max GPU temps in low 70C's, CPU temps about the same.
-
Try changing the voltage back to 1.15 to see if it does it again.
I want to test the affect of OC'ing by flashing the new clocks vs using overdrive....maybe tomorrow. -
The Revelator Notebook Prophet
Will check with you tomorrow. Fact is, AMD Clock Tool is easier and more flexible than OD, but it's nice to have it available. Thanks for all the help.
