Hello everybody, I've just buy a GTX460M in order to upgrade my M15x with the old GTX260M.
The main issues is that my screen is always black after I start the system. No beep noise nothing else. I heard also the Windows starting sound after few seconds.
Bios is the last version.
If it matters I've buy the laptop in January 2010, and I know that the M15x with the 460 was out in november 2010, does it change something in the motherboard? may be something wrong with the vbios?

may be your vga is dead.
-
u can try re-check whether the GPU is properly seated or not, if u can go at least till POST screen, u can try to boot in safe mode..
about VBIOS, there's VBIOS update for this Gtx 460M but you should check 1st what vbios u r in now, which is not possible if u can go inside the system... -
The screen is completly black , but the system seems to be working, how can I access in safe mode if I don't see anything?
What do you mean when you say to re-check if the GPU is properly seated? is a slot I try several time to reassemble the whole thing.
May be exist incompatibility with the Motherboard? My pc was bought in January 2010, before that in alienware store was available the 460 with the m15x. -
Hey, your motherboard can run even a hd 6990m so you can easly run this card without problems. but the reason why the this doesnt work is, your vga card is dead.
-
Remove the video card and re install the gt260.
Restart system,if all goes well and you can see video again go into windows and uninstall driver for gt260.
Reboot and you shoud now be on windows generic vga driver all being will.
Shut down system re install gt460,start system and if all is well download latest driver for gt460m from nvidia and install -
Yo did you read correctly?
OP said it doesnt even access bios , its completly blank, if it's a driver issue it will crash when loading windows until that il will go fine, in his case he cant even see the anything on the screen form start up , so his gpu is dead. -
If OP's GPU was dead he would'nt make it by the pre bios diagnostics which would show him flashing Caps lock and Numeric lock to indicate a dead GPU.
To much in correct advice being given to him.
OP stated he could hear windows startup which means its operating fine just an issue with trying to run gt460 on gt260 driver variables. -
lol
newbie's should learn some info first , before they can advise others.
that card can be working but , there shoud be some problems in it, thats why it doesnt put up anything on screen.
@OP you should check your card with another laptop. DO you know vga cards easily die ,even if there was a small scratch on the GPU die. -
I may be a nebie on here but i,m an engineer of 25 years experince .
Seems some are on a crusade to attack newbies rather than help op get to the crust of the problem. -
Thanks for the answers. So I will try to find a laptop to fit the 460m. The seller said to me by private messages that the card works fine, you say to me that the card is dead.
I don't really think that is a driver problem, I install and reinstall the driver many times but nothing changed, also with generic driver by windows.
Anyway, now the problem is to find a guy with a laptop where I could check the VGA.
Hard to find. -
any news ?
i`m waiting on my 460M to arrive -
Hi,
I have exactly the same problem and the same configuration (upgrading M15X GPU GTX260m to GTX460M). I also have the latest BIOS A09.
Can you please share if you have any updates?
