Cash is not the issue for me, but rather wich one is best for me.....I will be traveling alot, and I understand that they are both brickish. Wich one seems to work better overall, right out of the box? Visualy I want the best looking keyboard and visual effects. Wich one should be a better looking system in your opinion? I don't care about the brick issue.

I traveled with an M17x and feels a lot more heavy than 3 lbs difference between it and the M15x .
The M15x is quite portable if you have the 6cell battery. The nine cell makes it thicker. Only get the 9cell if you plan to buy an extreme processor. -
The only 'real' difference ( screen size not withstanding ) is that the 17" has a numeric keypad on the motherboard. IF you are an avid number cruncher, go for the 17. Load it up with power, a fast SSD and all 8Gb ram.
Although I primarily use my 15" for gaming, I am an active day trader and do not find advantage in the numeric pad. I'm extremely happy with my wide-screen 15. I'm so glad I future proofed it by 'nearly maxing it out' (see specs), 5 months ago, it was unneeded then, I use it all now.
Finally, consider what you will be transporting your AW M15x in. It will not fit in backpacks designed for 15' (standard) screens. -
M17x, why? :
1- Metallic finish!
2- Both bricky yep but M17x is more powerfull.
3- I bought M15x thinking just like you, that it would be easier for me as I travel a lot. I was wrong, both M15x and M17x are difficult to carry. But M17x gives you 2 graphic cards and bigger screen... -

In addition to the 3 lb weight difference, the two have vastly different power supplies. The M15x 150 watt is actually quite small (smaller than a Gateway FX or Asus ROG PSU).
My guess is that carry weight would be <11 lbs versus ~17 lbs (if your M17x has two video cards). The M17x was a back breaker, but at the time I could not miss the launch of Mass Effect 2. -

Honestly if you need absolute power at the cost of feeling like you're carrying a small child or desktop go with the m17x, if you want great power that's slightly more portable but pretty much the same outside dimensions go m15x lol. Most people don't realize what a tank the m17x is until they get it but it is a decent amount more powerful when it comes to graphics.

If you have the money get the M17x There both very heavy. 3lbs is nothing

Pretty much what everyone said goes and i will reinforce with some backup. The weight difference between the 2 is very little about 2 lbs but the brick it self adds more weight as well which is what some people do not think about as well. So like lewdig said about 4-5lbs when you factor everything in. The only reason to go with m17x is for the dual video card and RGB and if you are not planning on getting both those features you are better off sticking with m15x especially if you only get 1 video card in m17x. The second video card make a big difference only in games that support crossfire and you will be surprised some of your games you play might not support crossfire yet so check that in advance.
I ran a benchmark on the m17x for Just Cause 2 on all high on 1200p resolution and have a benchmark for a single 5870 and crossfire 5870 so you can see the difference in performance. Battery life the m15x with 9 cell is usable for 2.5hrs the m17x is more like 1 hr.

Military guys that just got out of highschool that are nerdy skinny carries 60-70lbs equipment and long walks everyday, i'm sure you will be fine with 11-12lb 17" m17x
-
Treat yourself, buy both!
My m17x sits at home on my desk, while I take my m15x out to work or game.
If I had to choose though I would keep my m17x and just carry the extra 3lb -
