is there ANY mobile gpu out there that wont work in the m15x provided it fits physically??? :D

btw @King of Interns, ive made some good experiences with 100% isopropanol when using CLU on my machine. it basically completely dissolves the metal paste and thus lets u remove it quite easily, so be sure to have a small bottle of that in reserve when using starting to apply clu :)
also, id recommend ultra over pro any day, same goes for phobya LM, the latter two are just a b***h to apply and they tend to fly all over the place once u move / tilt the machine (during transport), not good for the health of your internal components! @electrical short

compared to that, ultra is way more viscous and "pasty", thus easier to apply and it sticks to the applied area without flying around inside ur machine ;) nevertheless, its on the same level if not slightly better in terms of temps :)

I am back up and running
Only thing currently not working is the alienhead power button lights.

For some reason stuck on configuring win updates and i cant see if its thinking lol.

680M installed. Tomorrow will give it a test run to make sure old mobo didnt damage it.

980M waits in a static bag! Ooh just heard windows log in sound.....

Edit: so strange now that iam in windows the thinking light is working....

Was same thing when i've changerd broken mobo for a new one. All colors was orange instead of blue and alienhead wont glow too. That's because, alienfx controller didn't know your personal presets and boots for a first time after you trow it in. Color can be changed only trough software after windows boot-up, so it's normal.

oooh boy, OJ on a machine, ive had that happen to me before...only that i was successful in saving it in time only for it to come back and bite me in the butt about 1.5 years later, corrosion can be a patient b***h, striking when u least expect it!

Thank you guys for the info. I'm hoping I can afford the 980 firstly. i'm thinking i may have a way to build a custom heat sink for the 880m once i put it in the m15x it will require a stupid amount of work but if i have to modify the chassis to fit and cool the video card i will going to use what i have access to before i spend the money. i'm itching to order the 980m so badly. but again thank you for the help. I'm going to underclock the 880m once its in the m15x it will still runn everything fine. I havea radeon 5730 in it currently and it isn't enough for what i play

Well my plans are currently in the mail thanks to @King of Interns, 680M, and a new shiny router :D
Only paid $200 for the 680M, then he decided he wanted to throw some goodies in so i added $20 to help with shipping.

Bah... 970M is delayed at UPS.

This is the second time I have had an issue with shipping. Last week I sent out fork tubes and a rear shock to be reworked and FedEx couldn't find the recipient's address. This business gets stuff through FedEx every day. Wankers...

Newegg came through for me. Win 8.1 64 bit was delivered on Saturday. So I can still put finish it out except the GPU which isn't a big deal. I have plenty of time. :D

Well it seems UPS damaged the 680M or something, it's not working.

it died with a purple screen watching a youtube video at 4k...

It obviously isn't KOI's fault, damn UPS.
We are making a damage claim to UPS and I have something in the works once I get a refund.

Hey Gofspar it might be a long shot but it might be possible to clear the ESD (if that is what has caused damage) by placing it overnight in a anti static bag.

I am guessing US customs are guilty of grossly mishandling the card after they didn't return the packaging. The items were clearly invoiced too and there was no need for them to change the packaging at all.

I hope UPS give me something back. You will get a refund.

Thanks for giving this advice fatboy! Gofspar is going to try this and will test again after 24 hours in the bag.

If all is well then great if not I send him a refund. Lol to 500 dollars. Of course I will try to milk it if that is even possible. I do need to get a new 920xm afterall :D

I pulled the trigger on 2x 210W adaptors....yes I know stupid as I just got rid of my old ones.

Can't confirm it yet but the 180W adaptors seem not to be a good match for the M15x. Confirmation to come soon!

The mistake if I am correct (pretty sure this time lol) cost me a pretty penny. The least that could come out of this is for the rest of the community to learn from my mistakes.

would love to buy a 970m or a 980m but that price tag oft. Better than buying a new laptop with one in it, most certainly cheaper looking at it that way.

Was looking through the benchmarks for 3d mark. My 920 with m6000 scores about 2500 in fire strike, u look at the 7970 at about 4400, not bad and then the 970 - 6500. Absolutely mental

I will tell you what 980M can achieve soon enough :) nobody can match my without volt mod 920xm so should be interesting ;)

I also had a mental idea. If the battery is dead I reckon it might easily be possible to retrofit a bluetooth speaker into the hole!

This would give the M15x better sound than even modern laptops with inbuilt subwoofers!

Thoughts people? Time to measure the dimensions. I think some slim strip bluetooth speakers would fit snugly!

Lets just say I never got the 6990M seated properly in my m15x. Went from idling in mid 40s-50s to 90 degrees almost instantly upon engaging 3d clocks. Piece of crap really. Could also have been my lack of knowledge of heatsink screws at the time. Stepped up my game for when 7970M arrived.

Stephen my 7970M (before it died) was just under 4900 in firestrike. Benchmarks aren't everything. 680M is sooo much smoother than 7970M in games.

Why would you add a speaker and not more cooling? Khenglish got me looking at custom heatpipes awhile back but pretty pricey in small quantities.

love to see some 980m benchies on this beast. Take it the standard heatsinks cant take the heat and your using your cooling mod for it ??

Never thought of a bluetooth speaker in the battery compartment before. But down firing will sound muffled a little i presume ?

U could always replace the cells really cheap, much cheaper than buying a new battery, just desolder and resolder new ones.

Altho i take it with the psus u have they hae the pin mod and wouldnt charge anyway.

What about using the space to cool the laptop better. Maybe another heat pipe or 2 so some find and fans underneath to blow out heat.

Very true with the benchies mate. I dont always base things on the benchmarks but its where i start. Then i look for what games i play and see how they run on each card. Right now for the 60 quid the m6000 will do but i will upgrade in the future. I really love this laptop. And i have no want to see it go sometime soon.

I mean it is tempting to get something newer. Lighter and slimmer. But for looks, and the price u can spend on uprades, it seems limited by the cpu. 16gb ram is sweet. Wifi ac, ssds , disk drive replacement to hard drives. 1080p is great for gaming. Great selection of graphics cards. And the satisfaction of upgrading the machine yourself to get some awesome performance

Modding a heatsink into the space is quite an undertaking.

I was thinking more along the lines of keeping the machine as stock. Stephen iam only stripping out intake mesh and applying CLU to the 980 and 920.

The speaker could fit flush and using gel feet means no muffled sound. Also easily removable to stick battery back in...

I havent got 6 cell nemore. Could someone measure its dimensions?

Something like this would fit nicely. Expensive though! https://www.google.ch/search?q=Thin...UIBigB&dpr=1#tbm=isch&q=Thin+bluetooth+dash+7

Ah right. Was only a suggestion lol.

Speakers not such a bad idea. Machine could use a sound boost shame theres not much room to fit them inside. U get some pretty loud little speakers now adays

Going to pick up a Notepal X slim II 200mm fan version cooler soon.

I am also thinking to construct a gaming back panel. The plastic panel keeps alot of heat in. I wonder if using sturdy metal mesh I can cut a piece to the same size and install while I have games to play.

Paired with a powerful cooler and liquid metal compound cooling should be good while the computer remains still in one piece.

silly question guys when going to 16gb of memory will the machine work with only 1 stick or require 2.

Just asking because i bought my dad an 8gb stick, but black screens his laptop no boot at all. Same in mines. I dont have another ddr3 laptop to test it.

But on closer look at the ram the chips on it look cracked.never seen a dimm stick with cracked chips. Just wondering if its dead

It should work fine with just a single stick. Is the 8GB stick high density RAM by any chance? What make and model is it?

You want 1.5V for your Ram. Some work at both 1.35v and 1.5v but some do not, and again try to find out if the RAM uses high density or low density modules, the latter of the two is preferred.

I am running impact Kingston hyper X. The ram at default runs at 1.35V but is compatible with 1.5V modes.

Any 1.35V lower power ddr3 ram should therefore be backwards compatible with the M15x.

What's the best USB3.0 expresscard available for the M15x? (fastest, most stable usb 3 controller chip, high durability)

I'll try to buy off ebay.
