Hi fellow M15x owners and experts, wanted to check if its possible to remove the whole screen assembly and use an external display via the DisplayPort. Have been using this laptop since 2010 and its been very reliable until the LCD started degrading (pic attached below).
I tried removing the screen assembly but the laptop did not POST as expected. Wondering if I'm missing something or what I'm hoping to do is not possible from a design perspective.
Thanks and appreciate any thoughts.

No, the laptop needs to recognise that an LCD is attached or it won't post. I don't know if anyone has ever found a way around this.

Maybe removing the EDID eeprom from a broken panel and soldering it to the i2c, Vcc and Gnc pins of the LVDS/eDP cable might be more than enough, so the laptop thinks that a display is connected.

Hi,
There is a way. If I remember correctly I've had that's same problem and I found solution somewhere. I had to remove one resistor from motherboard in order to work without panel. But it was few years back and I simply don't remember which one was that. I should have this motherboard lying somewhere around. I will try to find which resistor was that. But I can't promise anything.ghostnetwork and ll_r1d0_ll like this. -

Thanks for the responses. Looks like its possible, but not straight-forward, and helps to confirm my theory. Appreciate if anyone can share a guide or website on what @darnok44 was referring to. Looks promising.
Is it possible to remove the LCD screen and only display via DisplayPort on the M15x (2009)
