Only using firefox, with the old Alienware driver the gpu-z temperature is 40c, with this one temperature is 50c. With the new one the gpu runs quicker than the old one.
The current Alienware driver for 460m is 259.64, seems this one is calmer
But I am a little worried about if this will cause overheat.

I haven't seen it released anywhere, where did you download it? (Sorry, I know that wasn't an answer to your question )
-
Thats around what 5850's idle at. Run furmark and report your temps.
-
If you can link me to the driver I will do a few furmark runs tomorrow and let you know how it goes.
-
^^^well,it's just that I've been using 265.** series driver lately and it's been working great for me...High overclock, rock stable, amazing temps n so on..not to mention my fps on some games.ESP BBBC2,Crysis2,metro2033 has increased by 20-25% overall as compared to those outdated Dell drivers..
Well,u guys can try 266.** series.. I'll install these drivers in a moment n tell u what it does for me...
Cheers!! -
You can get it at laptopvideo2go. Upon inspection, there is not difference between these drivers and the 266.58. the 66's have just added 560 Ti compatability.
-
-
Ok are the drivers at laptopvideo2go the ones that run on the 460 and require the modded .inf file to work on the 460m?
-
So these drivers are more optimized for 460m over the 266.58?
-
Yes. You need to download 2 files.
-
I've noticed fairly poor overclocking with the 266 drivers, should I switch back to 265? I've upped the voltage to 1.03v, and I'm still just barely stable at 700/1100/1700. I still get occasional glitches, but I've heard that most people who up the voltage can get fairly stable clocks of around 700/1100/1750.

Post? What do you mean?
-
I mean the thread in this website about 460M overclock, the search looks not working -
Alrite so I'm getting the error: "this graphics driver could not find compatible graphics hardware" this is me trying to install the 260.99 and 266.58 driver versions, straight off the Nvidia site - They are also listed as compatible... ???
Note. I had already uninstalled the previous driver minus the display before attempting to install these? Anyone else had this issue? -
Yes everyone does. Go here:
v266.58 Windows 7/Vista 64bit | NVIDIA OEM Mobile - LaptopVideo2Go Forums
Download the modded inf and stick it in your display driver folder that was created from the driver exe from nvidia. Make sure it overwrites something or else you're putting it in the wrong place. Install and it should go through. -
Thanks mate. Now my understanding was the modded inf file was only required when using the driver as found on laptopvideo2go as they where intended for the desktop GTX 460's... Why would Nvidia state they are compatible with the notebook series on the site? It doesn't make sense to me!

For anyone else having issues with the installation of the 266.58 driver, here's what I did:
Steps.
1) First you want to download both the Driver and Inf files from the url as seen in the above quote.
2) Go to Control Panel then Programs - Unistall your Nvidia drivers here. Reboot.
3) Extract the Driver file 1st - Will be named '26658_win7x64'
4) Once unrar'd open the folder '266.58_win7x64' and run the setup exe. You will receive the error message: "this graphics driver could not find compatible graphics hardware"
5) Now either copy and paste / or simply move the modded inf file named as 'nvva' into the 266.58_win7x64/Driver.Display folder - Here you will be prompted to overwrite the already existing .inf file. Click yes to overwrite.
6) Now run the setup exe again and the driver will install sucessfully. Reboot once more if preferred.
EDIT: Will rep ya when allowed again, gotta I spread the love a little bit more 1st -
After installed a driver not from Alienware, the Fn+F4,F5 key doesnot work.
-
Where did you download it from and what driver version was it?
-
-
-
They won't work because they aren't official Dell ones. You can however change the brightness when the Starting Windows boot animation hasn't showed up yet. You can change the brightness by going into the boot menu or bios before the OS has loaded to adjust brightness.

Ok, but from where I can get the 266.66 drivers for my GTX460M?
Here, v266.66 Windows 7/Vista 64bit | NVIDIA Desktop - LaptopVideo2Go Forums I only can find the Desktop version.
Any ideas from where I can get the Mobile version? Or the Mod INF? -
The 266.66 are exactly the same as the 266.58 the only difference is the added 560 Ti support. Here is the link to the 266.58 with modded inf.

Just to learn more from you
The first three numbers are always the same driver no matter the last two?
266.58 = 266.66 = 266.XX ?
The only difference is just the video card model support?
(OK, maybe there is some difference between Mobile and the Desktop version).
Am I correct?
Thanks! -
Hey glad to help.
The first three digits usually highlight a major release when nvidia deems it releasable. We see loads of numbers skipped and some are regarded as beta etc. This does not mean that all 266's are the same but they may come from one major release. Think of it as nvidia starts a 266 project and releases versions whilst working on them which are represented by the decimals. The decimals are perhaps variations, OEM's have certain drivers that upon inspection are similar to nvidia ones of a different release number. A new number such as 267 or 268 would mean that nvidia's driver deelopers have started again from scratch. This is what I gather anyway I could be wrong. But to people like us, some misinformation doesn't really matter. -
