I am having problems with hooking up my HDTV using the HDMI output on my m15x. I have used it before with my older GTX 285M and it worked fine. (besides sound). Now I have a new 5850 from dell. When I hook up the HDMI cable, my screen goes black. Not off, but black. My TV says no signal and even after I unhook the cable, my screen stays black and I am forced to manually shut it down. I have tried hooking it up with my computer and TV being off and then starting them up. It starts up fine but once it passes the initial loading screen, it goes black like before. When I hook it up using a VGA cable, it works fine (except the sound of course). I would really appreciate some help. Thank you!

have you tried catalyst control center, or hitting FN+F6, if that dont work try uninstalling and reinstalling ati ccc

I have tried 3 different drivers. In order for catalyst control center to recognize it, it needs to be hooked up. The second i do that, the screen goes black so i cant do anything. I tried hitting fn+f6 and nothing happened. I also tried 2 different versions on CCC.

did u use drive sweeper?
-
Used driver sweeper then did a clean install of 11.5 ATI driver. Now it projects onto the tv up until it goes to the log in screen. then my screen goes black like before and have to restart.

Is it possible your TV doesn't support the resolution you're putting out?
Try turning the res down on the laptop to 720p, then restart and plug the cable into the TV, in fact you shouldn't even need to restart. -
I have had it hooked up before. When i go to uninstall programs, nvidia ntune and system monitor are still installed. It doesnt allow me to remove them either. I get an error message that says It requires Nvidia software to operate. Could this be interfering?

Yeah, but have you done what I asked? The res put out by the card might not be compatible with your TV. Even if it's only to rule it out, turn down the resolution.

I'd be inclined to try this on another TV.
I had a TV that wouldn't display output from an XBox 360 over HDMI, but would from my brothers 360.
Rule out the TV by testing on another. Especially since the TV doesn't 'recover' after you unplug the cable from it and stays black. -
Ive tried it on a 56" sony HDTV and a 42" Visio. it did the same thing on those too. Does the built in VGA support HDMI. Im wondering if its the 5850 itself.
