Thanks to Chinese websites I’ve been able to find some not so expensive spare parts for my always reliable M15x. I’m currently running games on windows 10 with an i7 820QM, 16 Gigs of RAM a great GeForce 980m (according to the bios from Dell) on a 240 watts PSU with no problem other than the noise from the fans.
I know that all the bibliography on the system says the i7 920XM is the top of the line processor for this system, but I decided to give the 940XM a try since it apparently uses the same socket and draws the same amount of power.
It’s gonna be a while before I get my hands on the CPU so I’m asking in advance what sort of modding I’ll be looking at since I’ve read many comments referring to some successful 920XM and a 980m combo.
I’ve been unable to find any dedicated posts on the matter, so any help will be greatly appreciated.

From what I've seen, only the 4gb version of the 980M will work properly in the M15x. @MrMogwai will be able to shed more light on this though

I’m working with the 8gb version with no problem othe than the temp. The card throttles at 85°C but it's almost unnoticeable

That's good to know then. Did you have to do the 240W PSU mod to get full power?

+T+he best way to handle thay mod is to drill a small square hole +and solder in a two position slider switch, if you need charging, just move it to charge position
GeForce 980m + i7 940XM
