If you do it to a phone I would put a clear skin over it.

Same reasons you would get one for a phone in the first place.
-
wow black with the green accent looks pretty sweet. -
haha... Well I assumed it was to prevent scratches. I thought you were implying that the colorware paint was more susceptible to scratches.
-

-
These are the choices I came up with....Right now I'm leaning to the cranberry/black combo.

wow thats a sexy paint job, looks totally awesome.
-
You like the "bling" huh.
I like the color just not the glossy. -
Yeah its a beauty...
-
so im guessing these people have to take apart your entire m15x. Would I trust them to do that, I dont know. Does dell sanction these activities and let your warranty stay in tact even after a third party not approved by dell rips the entire thing apart, i dont know. would be nice to know these answers. And how do they color the metal parts. I doubt they anodize it do they just spray paint over the anodized aluminum seems kinda expensive for a lil spray paint 500 dollars damn you can have your car painted for that can you say rip off.
-
They don't do the M17x because of the anodized aluminum. Only the M15x. Also it does void your warranty from Dell so they provide a warranty for you. No idea how good it is.
-
ouch pay 500+ dollars to void your warranty and get some color. I would think about doing it if my dell warranty wasnt messed with but its just not worth losing your warranty. And how come I thought the m15x was aluminum too. Was it always plastic?
-
The only time you would have an issue with the warranty is if you were doing a system exchange since everything Dell does is on site....
-
-
M15x body is not plastic it magnesium. so far i haven't seen anyone get colorware yet, but seems awesome. i just wanna feel the soft touch paint they use.
-
it cant be made of just magnesium. Magnesium burns bright white when an open flame touches it. It has to be some sort of alloy
-
That explains why my vents glow when I benchmark.
-
that lime green is like the perfect color for an alienware laptop. Lime green and jet black some combo of those 2 not sure if glossy or soft touch would be better but i have to say lime green and jet black is the best combo

ok sent it to get powder coated, will now the result in a week. btw only cost $40 to get it powder coated.
-
-
i'm powder coating the lid and the bottom base, those parts are magnesium, all the plastic parts i'm leaving stock for right now. hopefully the finished product will look some thing like this, should be done this week, fingers crossed.
-
Wow. That's sexy. So the lid is definitely magnesium? That's great news! I was under the impression that it was plastic.
-
yeah lid and bottom case is magnesium, the shop tested it for me. if this works out, it will be the best way to go. since powder coating is more durable and yet cheaper to do. but it is harder to powder coat than other metals, i just hope it doesn't out gas, then all should be fine.
-
-
wow nice congrats man, gonna be hard to sleep once you know its coming next day, hahhahah.
-
Haha tell me about it! I'm already dying as it is.
