If you do it to a phone I would put a clear skin over it.

haha... Well I assumed it was to prevent scratches. I thought you were implying that the colorware paint was more susceptible to scratches.

so im guessing these people have to take apart your entire m15x. Would I trust them to do that, I dont know. Does dell sanction these activities and let your warranty stay in tact even after a third party not approved by dell rips the entire thing apart, i dont know. would be nice to know these answers. And how do they color the metal parts. I doubt they anodize it do they just spray paint over the anodized aluminum seems kinda expensive for a lil spray paint 500 dollars damn you can have your car painted for that can you say rip off.

They don't do the M17x because of the anodized aluminum. Only the M15x. Also it does void your warranty from Dell so they provide a warranty for you. No idea how good it is.

ouch pay 500+ dollars to void your warranty and get some color. I would think about doing it if my dell warranty wasnt messed with but its just not worth losing your warranty. And how come I thought the m15x was aluminum too. Was it always plastic?

The only time you would have an issue with the warranty is if you were doing a system exchange since everything Dell does is on site....

it cant be made of just magnesium. Magnesium burns bright white when an open flame touches it. It has to be some sort of alloy

that lime green is like the perfect color for an alienware laptop. Lime green and jet black some combo of those 2 not sure if glossy or soft touch would be better but i have to say lime green and jet black is the best combo

I just have one question... How do you powder coat plastic? I thought powder coating required a flow of electricity and seeing as how plastic is a natural insulator, I don't see how it would work. I have, however, heard of liquid powder coating and I was told that that may be able to be used on plastic. I'm just a little confused on the whole matter. (Ok I lied, more than one question) What color are you getting it powder coated? Would you mind posting pics when you get it? And I know people are debating what material the lid is but I was under the assumption that it was plastic and the M17x was anodized aluminum. Is this right?

yeah lid and bottom case is magnesium, the shop tested it for me. if this works out, it will be the best way to go. since powder coating is more durable and yet cheaper to do. but it is harder to powder coat than other metals, i just hope it doesn't out gas, then all should be fine.
