    How much "better" are the 5870's than the 5850's? I am waiting on a confirmation, but I was told that I would get a 5870.

    essentially the are the same card, the 5850 is just a down clocked 5870.

    The only difference is the clocks, both cards have much more potential with overclocking.

    hmmmm, did i read somewhere that the new Vbios for the 5870 make it impossible to work with the m15x? i know the older vbios will work.... someone enlighten me please and forgive me if i recalled wrongly. :eek:

    5870 is awesome and it can be OC'd beyond 6970 clocks I believe... but are you sure they are giving you a 5870 because I wanted to buy this card and no matter how hard I tried, they would not sell it to me and kept insisting that it won't work in a M15x and it was meant for M17x users. You might wanna give them a call again because one of our forum members (Aliened) was supposed to receive a new M15x with 5870 but he ended up getting a 5730.. Sorry for the guy.

    Don't wanna be a party-spoiler here but I'm just trying to inform you what I know...hope you get a 5870 because it is a BEAST of a card. ;)

    Oh I am well aware of his thread, and yes this is a confirmed 5870. I have already had my 5850 swapped out with another. I was given an option of 460 or 5870, I was not going to take the 460 so we decided on the 5870. I'm supposed to hear back in the morning. Also, he did state to me numerous times that the m15x has not been approved for use with anything "higher" than a 5870. They have been very helpful thus far; after we got through the phone calls and went straight to email and started working with their layer 2 techs. I did get a bit tired repeating myself to the layer 1 techs on the times I called in.

    EDIT: I just realized that I failed on the thread title. Oh well, live and learn.

    Unfortunately they cannot ship me the part until my system that was replaced arrives in their hands. I gave them tracking no, etc; so hopefully it helps is in speeding up the process.
