Hi all,
Before I get my new R3 M17X I thought I'd bench the guts out of my M15X one last time, hopefully leave a record mark on the forum, maybe a bit ambitious but can't harm trying. Basically I'm looking to flash the VBIOS on my GPU. It's a dell 5870 and I want the flash the voltage to 1.15v as I can't get past 9700 on 1.05v. I think I know what to do but I have before killed a card while trying to flash so I want to be completely sure before doing it. If someone could just go through the process it would be much appreciated.

So just follow the guide and everything should go smootly
-
Also do I use the latest RBE 1.27?
-
We await your Breakthrough Score and abuse of the 5870........
hope u can shatter some 3Dmark records...in this attempt~
*Remember to run without the back case cover of the M15x.. lower temps -
Hah I will try, well.... until the point where I'm about to crap myself in worry over frying my card. And thanks for the tip didn't know that.
-
So will 1.27 be good? Because on the guide that inap posted it looks like someone killed their card from using the wrong version

No, use RBE 1.26.
-
Yeah rev is right you need to use 1.26. Looking forward to see what you can do.
-
Ok thanks guys. Hah don't expect too much.
-
Just before I go forward can I just get the rom checked, better to be safe than sorry. 2shared - download 2D - 100, 150, 0.9 3D - 500, 1000, 0.9.rom

Looks OK if your purpose is just to raise voltage to 1.15v for 3d clocks. Now rename it something like 700_1000.rom so you can deal with it in a DOS environment and can distinguish it from other vbios files if you later decide to also o/c core and memory clocks via vbios.
Edit: Where did the base vbios come from that you modified to create the new one? -
Ok thanks for the help, really appreciate it. Going to flash now.
-
Wait, what do I do with the ATIFlash files, I've forgotten. Doesn't mention in the guide.
and these 2 lines would be correct right?
atiflash -s 0 vbios.rom
atiflash -p -fs 0 700_1000.rom -

Copy them to a DOS bootable USB stick, along with the revised vbios. Then boot from the memory stick and flash the card.
atiflash -p 0 700_1000.rom <enter>
Then WAIT . . . until it tells you to restart the computer to finish the flash. Remove memory stick and reboot. -
Of course, thanks.

Best of luck. Let us know how it goes.

Alrite, all flashed, just ran 950/1050 and got 9972.69
Going to push it further. -

Congratulations. The fun begins. LOL.
-
Still wont even get to 1100 on memory clock

Hmmm...oh well. I'll see how far I can get on the GPU clock but the memory clock wont go higher than 1050. I was looking to get 10,000+ on the GPU score. Also whats the best drivers to use?
-
The Revelator Notebook Prophet
Probably the newest ones -- the Cat 11.2's.
9,973 GPU. You're there for all practical purposes. Let it rest and cool off a little from time to time. Use one of the basic themes to knock out aero, etc. -
That's what I'm using. Well just got the following.

Great score! Huge jump on that last one.

Thanks, I am happy with that , it's not bad. I want to go higher though! I was hoping to get close to that 10500

I got my AW Mx15 from dell as a replacement and couldn't get a better video card than 5730. I have been asking some questions here about upgrading it and I am interested in either the Dell 5850 or the 5870. Is there anything special I have to do to get the 5870 working? Does everything on the dell 5870 work in the mx15? I have read about the sager version and that some things just don't work.
Need some advice, thanks! -
The dell version works seamlessly. It supports powerplay, audio over DP etc which the clevo cards don't support in the M15X. It will run no different than your current 5730 just of course it will be a lot more powerful. And the dell card can OC higher, only got 9200 GPU with my clevo card.
