Hey all.
Just upgraded to a SSD and have finished reinstalling everything including the drivers in the order recommended on the dell website.
For some reason I get an error message when I try to install the intel wifi driver, it says there is a compatibility problem with this version of windows..?
Secondly I get a crash/error message when I try to use the virtual scrolling on the alienware command center program..
Thirdly, how do I get all the alienware icons and cool login screen back?
Sorry for all the questions!
Regards,
Mike

I can just help with the logon screen... click here.

Make sure you get the drivers for your card directly from Intel for the right versions of Windows. For the scrolling issues, have you tried using the drivers from Synaptic's website?
For the logon screen, I use a simple app instead of bothering with the registry. What's cool about it is it will even resize the image if it's not the right dimensions:
Tweaks.com Logon Changer for Microsoft Windows 7
For the original Alienware Wallpapers, here is the link directly from Dell:

EDIT: Didn't realize but Revelator's link also has the direct link from Dell as well -
Hey guys,
Thanks for all your replies. Much appreciated.
Ironed out most of the kinks now.
The Revelator: What drivers are you using for your SSD? I also have a 160gb x-25m. I see there are some intel storage drivers in the alienware drivers section, but there's also the rapidstorage driver on the intel site.. Not sure which one I should use, if at all.. -

I downloaded the latest intel driver for the wifi which seemed to work fine. Still having the problem with command center though, have tried installing command center then the latest snaptics touch pad driver, also tried installing them in the opposite order and still get the error as soon as I click on the virtual scrolling tab. Everything else seems to be working okay though.

This is the error message I get in a text box when I try to select virtual scroll:

Anyone had the same error?

- Uninstall synaptics and CC (Command center) and restart.
- Download both newest driver.
- Install CC and restart.
- Install synaptics and restart.
My problem was solved using this method. -

The Revelator
These 2 versions (9.6.2.1001 and 10.0.0.1046) are not even available in Intel Download Centre. Could these versions be tailored as OEM versions, which may not suitable for M15x? -
The Revelator Notebook Prophet
Intel does a lousy job of keeping the Download Center updated. There are lots of versions of IRST drivers, many WHQL certified. They are not notebook-specific. Here's a few examples of links to D/L points or to the drivers themselves. Man, there's have been a lot since I last explored the matter.
Intel Rapid Storage Technology 9.6.3.1001 - Windows 7 Forums
intel drivers pour Raid/Sata/Ata/Ahci
The 10.0.0.46 version seems to be the best and brightest of the moment, so I'll probably update to it eventually. But the 9.6.2.1001 still works great. I'm no expert, just a satisfied user. -
Nice, that was going to be my next question.. I was confused when I couldn't find the drivers on the Intel website.
Are there any other drivers I need to install for the SSD? I have installed the toolbox and the latest rapid storage driver. I saw there was an Intel matrix storage driver on the website but my understanding is the rapid storage driver is the same program under a different name?
I have also run into an unusual issue after installing the driver, my touchpad no longer automatically disables itself after an external mouse is plugged in.. -
The Revelator Notebook Prophet
IRST is the one you want. The Toolbox is cool, but not really necessary in normal use with TRIM.
Just go to the Mouse Properties utility, click on the Device Settings Tab (far right - red) and re-check "Disable internal pointing device after external USB pointing device is attached," click Apply and OK. Installing the driver shouldn't have affected that, but you never know. -
For some reason the setting isn't there anymore. Strange. Also selecting and deselecting the option in command center makes no difference either.. very strange. I also tried reinstalling command center and the touch pad driver.. weird. Thanks for all the help Revelator.

I installed the touchpad driver from the dell site (older version than on the synaptics site) and it's all working again now. Still don't know why the option disappeared in the later version.. +rep to you Rev

Glad to help. Good to hear you got it back to normal.
Couple of problems after fresh install..
