Hi everyone! What is your battery's wear level at the moment?
I bought my laptop 3 months ago and use battery very carefully:
- Not plugged in while gaming.
- For normal use, use my laptop until it notify me then charge it until fully charged.
Yesterday when I run HWiNFO32, just realized my battery's wear level is 39.1% (Designed Capacity: 57720 mWh - Full charged capacity: 35153 mWh). I use AIDA64 to check but still have the same result.
Is my battery a faulty one?
-
That sounds like the battery is bad. I got my unit about 4 months ago and it's reading 10% wear exactly, using HWinfo also.
-
Wow you guys must use your batteries alot! I've had mine for about 8 months and before that someone else had it for I dunno how long. My battery wear level is at 9%.
@Flame113 your battery is dying, I suggest you phone up Dell and ask for another one. How is your battery up keep? Do you fully charge and discharge? If you do things half and half with the battery, it will wear down quicker. -
No, I don't use battery often. Every 2 days I plugged it in and use in the office (temp is low). And like I mentioned above, fully charge and discharge. I will request a new one. Thanks
-
these batteries dont like reaching very low charge levels, so if you are regularly reaching <10% levels, it will significantly effect battery life.

My M15x is about 1 year old now and shows battery wear of 6% (Aida64 Extreme), but stays plugged in most of the time.

9.8% after 1 year

What's going on here? -
Dell's gonna get a lot of battery replacement calls..that is what's going on here!!!
Thankfully, My M15x is long gone and replaced with a FINE M17xR3...!!! Woof woof...!! -
is it ok if my laptop was bought on jan 2011 til now , my wear lv is 23.8% (malaysian)
plugged in like relavator -
23.8% is high imo. I'm living in Malaysia too.
Here is the Dell's response:
"As this is a third party software, I do not know how do they calibrate the wear level and as such, the readings might not be accurate at all.
A battery is consider a consumable product, and performance will gradually degrade as the battery is used. Everytime the computer is connected with the battery ac adapter, it will consider as 1 cycle life. You may connect the ac adapter and battery at the same time without unplugging it however whenever you power off and power on the computer again, the battery will be supported with ac adapter's charge power thus this would consider as 1 cycle life as well. Thus, the performance will gradually degrade as the battery is used." -

I will have my battery replaced soon After I discussed with him again, he agreed to send a replacement. Cheers!

"These software are recommended on Notebookreview website and if battery wear level is not correct so how come they all have the same result?
39% after 3 months of using is insane ~_~"
From Dell Website ( http://www.dell.com/content/topics/...itelet/en/batteries_faq?c=us&l=en&cs=19#faq15)
"To check the battery health, press and hold the status button on the battery charge gauge for at least 3 seconds. If no lights appear, the battery is in good condition and approximately more than 80 percent of its original charge capacity remains. Each light represents incremental degradation. If five lights appear, approximately less than 60 percent of the charge capacity remains, and you should consider replacing the battery."

icic.. i shall get replacement too and shall ask regarding my webcam too.
im always plugged in too and i on my plug before i on my laptop -

hi all
11%(9mths of use) here - Spent nearly all its life being plugged in.. as my battery warranty is running out.. do u think its possible to request a new batt? -
TheHighlightGuy Notebook Consultant
So I used HwInfo32 instead of SIW and I got a wear level of 0%
Umm....?
I get all 5 lights on my battery when I click the little button, just fyi
Is HwInfo32 getting a wrong reading? -
You need to hold the little button for at least 3 seconds. When you click on that button it will show the remaining battery. Continue to hold that button it will show you the battery's health status.
P/s: is there anyone know why my signature has a blank block below? I edited my signature but doesn't work -

Only one light! Thanks!
PS you've got the full sig there, no worries. -
Brand new XPS L702x shows 3.6 wear straight out of the box, cycled battery last night, recharged and said 2.5% wear, did another cycle and now sayd 3.9% wear, new battery arriving tomorrow, but this will be the 4th they have sent, and all say 3.6% wear from new....HWINFO says max charge capacity 97% on every bATTERY TODATE.. THEY REPLACED THE WHOLE MACHINE A MONTH AGO BUT SAME DEAL 3.6% WEAR....
-
My M15x is about 2 1/2 years old and wear level is 11.4%. My battery is always in my laptop, never take it out. But, I am on ac power 99% of the time. Not fussed though, planning on getting a 9-cell for better airflow.
-
Mine is 38% wear level after 2 yrs
-
I'm thinking of getting a new 9 cell. Where can I get one instead of paying dell 155 bucks? Suggestions please?
-
Is your lappy still under warranty? If so, what is its wear level? If it is still in good condition, I'm not sure you can get a new 9 cell one
-
deep cycling batteries is the worst thing to do to them, never fully discharge a battery. that's the part that kills it faster.
I've got a canon digital camera I picked up in 2008, the battery in it still lasts for months with little to no use. same battery type as out computers iirc. -
in reference to the OP, isnt that the way to wear your battery the fastest?
from what i read, to reduce battery wear you should use a/c most of the time with battery charging disabled, and the battery charged around 50%
also its bad to fully dishcharge your battery, ie. waiting for it to reach 0% to recharge -
Hey guys, finally getting a replacement battery! Thanks for the help
-
by fully discharge, we calibrate the battery, which mean will let the display show true capacity of our battery, whatever the wear level is...
if u never do this, there's a chance in future u will experience sudden shutdown when your battery still show 30, 20 or even 50% left, this is because ur display and ur battery are not synced/calibrated.. -

%16 after 40 months. I do not discharge battery often, only when i need it, which is rare. Is that normal for me? Plus, i cannot fully charge (%100), only %96 or %97 maximum:
What do you think?
