I bought an i7-840QM for my m15x and have been having some problems.
Specifically the GTX-260M seems unhappy, Windows 7 hangs at login with a bsod (x101) but only with the Nvidia driver running.
Fresh install of Windows and dell/current/beta graphics drivers does not fix the issue. Furthermore the card can't go beyond performance level 1 (0-3) in Linux.
Reflashing the A09 bios did not help either.
The machine is rock solid in Linux (with the degraded gfx performance), more so than with the i5 in place, and the CPU is definitely fast. I can keep it running at full tilt for hours rendering without crashes or freezes at a low temperature.
I put in the old i5-540M and everything works fine again.
I had the CPU replaced with one just like it, same problem.
I tried setting the PCIe link to performance mode and made sure the machine is not stuck in stealth mode.
I noticed that my CPU is a Q3SE Engineering Sample and was wondering if anyone else had the exact same CPU/GTX combo and could tell me it definitely works or if someone with an OEM i7-840QM could post a cpu-z report for me to compare to mine (attached?)
