Just checking out Alienware's page, it seems they removed the M15x from the US site. Kinda made me sad to see it.
-
-
Hmm, it's still available on the European sites though...
-
The m15x is gone from Dell's website. Looks like our system is finally done being produced.
-
Well, but it's still available on the European sites... (they're always a bit slow over here )
-
This is bad, now people will need to buy the m18x to get a high quality casing. All other models are now made of plastic...
-
its gone in some Latin America site also... they might just be messing around with the site design, though...
-
Also, does the M17x R3 have socketed components? I mean, are they upgradeable? I know everything in the M15x is easy to upgrade yourself and that was one of the advantages it still held, but I wasn't sure about the newer models.
-
or making room for the m18x.
-
Well the 18x would be an m17x R2 replacement and the 14x is moreof a 15x replacement so they probably are just ending 15x sales -
I meant on their page, its a nicer design to have more limited amount of computers showing, its less confusing then having multiple versions of similar laptops. I know on some of the sites for other countries they have several similar looking laptops and it looks messy.
Either way it makes me sad in a way to see it gone. -
it's gone from the australian site too, only m11x, m14x and m17x are available atm.
-
What does this mean for warranty replacements in the future? I've always preferred ATI over nvidia, also the M14x doesn't offer a 1080p screen. I thought that the new M17xR2 was more of the M15x replacement because comparing them side by side, they're practically the same size.
-
No, the M17x R3 is kinda the new M15x... single GPU system, more powerful... But I'm sure they have enough parts for a while... and they definitely can't give you a M14x as replacement for a M15x, that would be a downgrade in most cases.
-
Sorry if im a bit slow, but are they discontinueing the M15x? I cant see why they would do that, seeing as the M14x has less power, and the M17x is just too big for most people.
-
Actually, when comparing the sizes, they are almost the same. What you must understand is the M15x is a 17 inch laptop with a 15 inch screen. The new M17x R3 is a lot smaller than the older M17x. Imagine when you look at your M15x and see that the screen has been stretched all the way to the edges without changing the chassis size. Make that 3D, take the keyboard and shift it to the left and add a numberpad to the right. Put in Sandy Bridge and some quicker GPUs. Boom. M17x R3. I guess what I am trying to say is that there is almost no size difference.
-
I actually use a 17 inch laptop sleave for my M15x, but i didnt realise that the M17x was a similar size, i just presumed that the chassis would have been 18-19 inches to be honest I'm now wondering why i didnt just buy an M17x in the first place! Its almost impossible to find a shop that sells them in the UK before buying them though, and the M17x prices are much higher.
-
Tis true. There is so much size difference between the M17x R2 and the M17x R3. You can have a look at hidevolution.com their service is pretty reputable. They ship to the UK and you don't pay as much for the same config. If it is an 'in stock' item then you'll get it in under 7 days but if they have to order it from Dell, it can take up to a month.
-
Yeah its off the site. 14", 17",11", 18"....tons of options guess a 15" isn't in the cards right now.
-
Actually theres 4 pages worth in the dell outlet of m15x's. So its still there
Dell Factory Outlet
Go there and check the m15x box -
OH.. . I thought the 15' was the best seller. I was expecting the M15 R3 to be announced. I was thinking that because it was the best seller so they would postpone the release date to gain more sales on the new release models (14' and 18'.) Well some of you guys make a good point that the M17R3 is almost the same size as the M15. So they discontinue the M15. This assumption make sense. But kind of disappointed since I like the M15, so NO more M15 with sandy bridge.: :
-
Heck, this makes my M15x even more precious than ever.Us M15x owners should feel proud of having this piece of irreplacable legacy machine .
-
-
This makes me sad. I love my M15x, and was considering replacing it down the line with an M17xR3 (Sandy Bridge, 6970, etc) but if the casing is plastic, that means I'm forced to spend the extra $500 to get the same thing only in M18x form.
Sigh. -
I don't see the M15x going obsolete yet though. The Area 51 one depreciated quickly because of vastly newer tech that was in our version. As a member in the M17x forums suggests, there is no adjusting the TDP in the 2920xm in the R3 so the M15x is still very much desirable.
-
-
Wasn't it soft-touch aluminum or soft-touch plastic? I think it was soft-touch aluminum, right?
I plan to trade in my m15x in a couple years for the m17x r3 or even an r4 if they do make one..... -
-
-
After using this M15x and enjoying it's beautiful aluminum, I don't think I can ever go back. -
M15x is not aluminium, it's magnesium. -
I was talking about the exterior. The M15x is distinctly metal, what kind I don't know. I guess I wish I had a way of experiencing the M17xR3 in person.
-
^^^ M15x is magnesium alloy. And M17x is hard plastic from what I've heard in the forums.
-
As of today the M15x Is no longer on the line up of the Alienware website. This is a surprising turn of evens since it was been offered just a couple of days ago.
Only place I found about it was on the engadget website, it seems AW planned to replace all along the m15x with the m14x which to me seems an odd choice. -
the m14x sux ...no FULL HD !
and no Quick access it jus got only a pair of Klipsch audio speakers and Xfi soundblaster...!! -
yeah.. its gone in malaysia too since the release of m14x
