Just got the open beta
the auto settings puts everthing on high and i get 30-40 fps
on ultra drops to around 15-20 i havent tried messing aroud with the settings though yet
also thats at 900p
-
Stock clocks?
-
can you please also include driver version.
im downloading now. will update tomorrow. -
Try it on medium with like low shaders and let me know
-
Anyone run the beta with the 6970m yet?
-
-
-
Played the beta, my gpu temp went up to 93 degrees. LOL/
-
Just played around with a few settings.
720p Low - 70-90
720p Med - 55-65
1080p Low - 50ish
1080p Med - 38-45
1080p High - 25-32
Running on 750/1000
On a side note this game is not very fun, havn't played battlefield since 1942 came out and this is nothing like that game, hope it's just that they arn't letting people play on maps with vehicles yet! If I want to get sniped in 3 seconds after spawning can play any other generic fps -
-
I little slow but that's expected, 1080p just eats the vidiya card up lol.
still waiting for that paste to get here (been around 4 weeks now) but after that its over clock city!
great game had to turn everything on low to get bearable play but idc im playing the beta! -
Hey guys! I am in no way a tech guy. I bought my M15x a year ago and put the most expensive card they offered in it. I also paid over 2 grand for this system.
My specs are
Intel core i7 740qm
6 gb ram
GTX 260m
600gb hd
Im running the newest beta drivers from Nvidia made for Bf 3 .
According to Fraps I'm getting about 30-35 fps on auto ( right now im clocked to 504/852/1200) but everything but texture quality is on low. I have Nvidia system tools and in game I'm running at about 75-83 deg C gpu temp and about 80% gpu usage. I have all the settings on the card set to performance because I don't care about a pretty picture I care about a smooth running game.
I overclocked to (640/1000/1600) last night and got 45-50 fps on low and 25 fps on ultra but after 15 min of play my temp was 91 deg C and I started backing it off.
Does anyone know what settings I should use to set the card up. I wasn't sure about all of it? Like in the Manage 3-d settings or is it better to let the App decide what settings to use?
Safe overclock numbers? Or do I just need to keep bumping them until I hit the temp limit?
Can I upgrade my Graphics card and should I?
Is 30 fps good enough for great game play?
Thanks for the advice and help maybe one day I will be a certified tech guy lol -
I have the GTX 260m as well and an i7 620m. For me, the game runs well enough at low/medium-ish settings without overclocking, and yeah you can upgrade your card if you so wish. I'm not much of a tech guy either, but hopefully this answers some questions..?
-
Not sure about the overclocking, as I never decided to overclock my 260m, because it does run up to low 80s in some games at max clocks (stock). I figured pushing the card would probably just burn it out real quick. My suggestion would be to upgrade your gpu as you can get a 6970m at a pretty good price $350-400 ish. The jump will be like night and day. Considering all the newer games and how old the 260m is (even though it is no slouch), I'd want to at least be able to run them at medium settings when I have my res at 1080p.
Just wondering why your clocks during the 30-35fps you got are at 504/852/1200 when the full clocks for the 260m are suppose to be core 550, memory 950, shader 1350 for our M15x? -
So, now that BF3 is in open beta, i would like to see how you're m15x are handling this game.
i have a i5 430m at 2.8 ghz, a 6970m OCed to 750/950 and im running it on high with 35-45 fps. -

Yea I just had it turned down a bit after over clocking doing some test. and actually I was mistaken at the stock clocks I was geting 35 and at the way I have it set underclocked im getting 30.
As far as a new card goes will I be able to upgrade to any new card without having to upgrade other stuff? I know someone told me one time that power was a issue in laptops. I still don't think i will be able to talk my wife into a $400 card just to play a PC game lol. -
i7 740qm, 5850m oc'd to 750/1000 high settings with 45-47 fps
Resolution is 900p i have the 1080 but it looks the same but with better performance.
the beta is a bit iffy i will change the settings to what i need and what i don't want and it will take a game restart to get the applied.
nothing but good things -
Well, i just oced mine to 750/1000 and im running on ultra with about 35 fps, using an external 1080p monitor
-
i wish i could oc more, the most i can go is 760/1050 without the driver crashing on me, game runs and looks amazing on ultra but the 24 fps isnt going to cut it!
when i get back stateside im going to do some mods which i will post on here. mabye some better airflow through the back plate. my As5 still hasnt arrived so i cant exactly keep ocing on the crappy paste
Well whats your gamer name on the pc? -
mines IDKwutName, i didnt know what name to pick (pun intended).
Also, i really want to OC higher but i have to wait till my thermal pads get here, using the stock ones right now. -
im at a temp cap of 103
i know i can push the damn thing further but the law of heat is the only thing stopping me lol
addded btw -
damn -
wait it is?
-
-
right now 55
-
Ya I think over 90 you can start damaging components.
-
I'll have results from 720QM, 5870M and 900p screen in a few hours.
-
Okay, so between 25-50FPS throught the map, most of the time around 35FPS. This is completely maxed except for motion blur being off, because I hate it. 900p screen, for the record.
-
GTX 260m and I7 740 qm
Stock clock. Running avg. 35 outside metro and 25-30 inside.
Outside my gpu temp stays around 85* C
and inside the tunnel Im getting around 90-92 * C so far no higher.
Really trying to figure out how to get a higher fps and lower temps lol.
the 90* mark starts to scare me and I can't afford to mess up my PC.
Edit: and this is with all settings on LOW ingame and my card settings all to performance. -
I have a M15x with 920xm(without OC)+6970m(680/900/1V)+1600*900 screen
Here's some screenshoots and fraps photos.
My god... I can only have 6 attaches...
First, the vedio config
And then some game fraps:
Indoor (Avg 55FPS)
Outdoor (Avg 41 FPS)
Some other whole game fraps
All in all, M15x can have a nice performance in BF3, the temperature is about 75-78℃. And although 30+ FPS can provide a fluent game, I think at this point it is better than BC2.Attached Files:

Nice. I just got my 6970m installed (still have to fix my temps though). I have the same specs and this gives me a good idea of what to expect. U should get more fps by turning down anisotrpic filtering and ambient occlusion too right?
-
-
Getting rid of the hbao and motion blur will definitely help the fps.
I was hoping those were video links =( -
Joshua, what drivers are you running?
-
-
You have plenty of option for a new video card ranging from about $150-450 in price (give or take a bit). The cards that can work be it supported officially or unofficially are the 5850m, 5870m, gtx 460m, gtx 560m, 6970m, and 6990m. I believe I listed that in ascending price too, didn't intend to but ya. I think someone may have gotten the gtx 470m working in the M15x, but I could be mistaken (I think it was svl7).
I mean if your happy with your fps and graphics level, then there is no need to upgrade, just enjoy the game =) -
i ran mine high with hsao off, motion blur off, aa off @ 720p resolution. Looks great and plays great. You should try
-
-
ya i got m 5850m 800/1000 with 37fps min
its fluent enough to play seriously didnt expect that good
since the test lease from those sites r incredibly low with 5770desktop
im happy -
im running at 900p too
5850m on 750/1000
but i have at least 37 on wt ever scenes(all high) -
Graphic settings aren't working in the beta build, so your performance at this point is semi-worthless considering the full game will have the correct setting adjustments.
-
-
Yea I happy with my fps and happy with the look and feel. I just don't like the temps I'm getting. Stock clocked and outside I'm Running about 85* C and inside the tunnel I range from 90-93*C I gotta get a cooling pad next any suggestions? I would like to have the best that will fit the M15x even if I had to spend $100 that would be ok.
-
My clocks are 700/1000. I re ran it today, wit VSYNC off, and it never went below 35FPS.
-
also if u have a 9 cell battery it helps with the cooling too -
Hi,
I' using an Area 51 m15x (rev 1) with a GeForce 9800M GT. I'm using the 185.81 drivers and have been able to run any newer game so far. Only BF 3 beta throws an error when not using the lastest drivers. So I went to install forceware 285.38...
Only after istalling 285.38 >no game< in Direct 3D works anymore. 9800M GT should be supported according to nvidia. I'm confused :S Anyone with a 9800 GT, who could get BF 3 beta running? -
Okay, Problem solved. Got it running with the old 185.81 driver
-
thats wierd, im getting pretty low frames for a 6970m (25 fps on med), drops to 15 a lot, stock clocks and OCed.
Probably my processor, though. -
everything is set to high (not that it matters in the beta), however I have blur set to 0% and aa off and aa pp set to high.
it does love cores though, on my hexacore desktop i'm seeing 10 cores utilized around 40~60%. -
Looks like a upgrade from a 620m to a 920xm will be worth the upgrade. Thanks for the info.
