I can't seem to find any of the mystical 9 cell batteries for the M15X or a 6 cell thats not some knock off piece of crap.
Anyone have an idea of where to aquire one?
Also does the 9 cell battery lift the back of the laptop off a flat surface like alot of extended batteries do?

6 cell battery here.
The 9 cell does indeed lift the back of the laptop off the flat surface but so do plastic bottle tops or little tins or bits of wood. I never even have my battery plugged in and I still have ample airflow round the back of my laptop. -
I had it like that on my last laptop and it annoyed the heck out of me.
Can I get a link to a 9 cell battery please? -

I am am considering to remove the battery and simply use gel feet.
The battery just serves to insulate the machine anyway.
Lets see once I get round to restoring my M15x -
I had the 9 cell. It lasted about 3 years. Now it is totally dead, not holding a charge at all. I'm using a 6 cell now. The 9 cells are hard to find and it looks like the knock-offs are all 6 cell models from what I've seen. Honestly, battery life was still pretty bad with the 9 cell, but it really looked nice and lifted the laptop well for better airflow.

It is worth keeping the nine cell just for that purpose even it is dead!

Found a 9 cell for like $60. -

I am not entirely sure.
To be honest though. A 9 cell when running the 920xm and a 100W GPU doesn't last long. You are talking 90 - 100 mins tops. 100 really stretching it.
The 9 cell really helps airflow to the cooling fans. That is where and how it is most useful. Not the extra 30 mins battery life... -
Both my genuine Dell 6 and 9 cell batteries just say Rechargeable Li-ion Battery. I'm not sure about the SMP batteries but most of the SMP batteries I've seen have Dell stickers on them with part numbers and barcodes, and most of the e-bay auctions for SMP batteries claim they are genuine Dell batteries so they probably are legit. The cheap knock-offs usually do not have any Dell stickers and barcodes.
Here's an SMP:

Check this out. This work for you? I was looking into this myself, and I think I'm buying this. A 9-Cell (sadly not the "lift-kit" one >_< ) for like $30.

>_< D'oh! That was an "As is" priced battery, my bad...

NOOOOOO. Don't get that battery. That battery in the link is for the older Area-51 m15x. It will not fit in the newer model. This is what the 9 cell from the newer model looks like:

This battery any good, just ordered it. -
Edit: The main difference between good and cheap batteries is the quality of the cells inside. My original 9 cell battery uses Samsung cells (I took it apart). Even though the battery is now dead, it did last around 4 years, and when I bought it, it was used and already had about 10% wear on it. I personally would stick with genuine parts, especially on premium laptops like the M15X.
These are genuine from a reputable reseller:

It has a year warranty so if it craps out on me I'll get it replaced. -
Hi guys, I'm new here. I have a loyal alienware m15x from 2009, I am looking to upgrade it modestly so I can catch up on some lost gaming. But before I upgrade to a graphic card which might require more power, I wanted your advice on which battery/adapter to get as I am going to buy those for sure. Any help? I want to buy a 9 cell battery and the appropriate adapter, in Europe.

The 9 Cells are getting harder and harder to find now, especially a new one. If you are upgrading the graphics card , you're gonna want a more powerful adapter like a 210W or 240W. The 9 cell battery will give you some extra life away from a mains source, but don't expect to do any modern 3D gaming while on battery power.

Thanks a lot kosti. I don't plan on gaming with the battery on, just need it to replace my dead one. Any links for what you think are good 9 cell batteries?
Cheers -
I wish I had some links to give you but again, they are hard to find. There are none available atm on e-bay but they pop up from time to time. I remember seeing one last week but it is gone now. I am also not aware of any reputable re-seller that has these in stock. If you're an ebay member you can set your account to follow a search such as "m15x 9 cell battery," and you'll get notified by e-mail when a new auction is posted with that in the title.
Make sure the battery you buy is for the M15X R2 (Dell Part number: T779R) and not the 9 cell for the older Area-51 m15x. -
Hi
is there a list of part number of compatible/original batteries for this laptop?
