Sorry for last post, was on my brothers computer and realized that I was logged in on his account only after the thread had been create. Anyway heres my post-
Okay, I will pull the trigger on the M15x come tomorrow, just have a few questions-
1.These are the specs of the laptop I am getting, it is brand new and not a refurb. What according to you would be the right price for this-
i7 processor(probably 720qm or 740qm)
4gb DDR3 ram
500gb HDD
1080p screen
1.5gb GDDR5 GTX460m
Assume everything else at base spec.
2. I need some sort of tool or software to fin out the specs of the laptop. I am buying this from a Dell outlet in India. The store only has a spec sheet which is not exactly informative. All it says are the things i have written above. Just i7 quad core processor, no model number(though I am assuming 720qm or 740qm), no clock speed for ram(1033 or 1333mhz) or rpm for HDD, or the specs for ODD, or which wireless card. I just need some sort of application or tool to check all these details at the store.
3. How good is the GTX460m. How long can it last(Assuming it to be dead when it can no longer play most latest games at Medium settings min)? -
type in dxdiag in the "search programs" bar. When you click on the windows button (bottom left) type in dxdiag.
The tabs in the dxdiag should tell you most of what you need to know. You can also goto the device manager. pretty much click on the windows button, right click on computer, then click on manage, then click on device manager.
The gtx 460m is a good card, should last maybe like a little over a year or so. it plays todays games on high at the very least. you dont be disapointed brah. -
To be honest, you should get the M14x or even a base level M18x. Sandy Bridge is a much better processor architecture than the first generation i7. Another thing is just that the first generation M15x is getting dropped.
Dxdiag is the way to go, that or put "CPU-Z" on a USB flash-drive and load that up on their machine (via USB). -
The Revelator Notebook Prophet
Either of these free utilities should serve you nicely:
HWiNFO32 -- HWiNFO32 Download
Speccy -- Speccy - System Information - Free Download -
oh yeah i never thought of that, you could just use a usb drive. I'm thinking of what's already pre-installed in windows. but if your usb has a virus you just infected that computer with the t-virus and everyone will be zombies...JP brah

Anyway HWinfo did the job for me thx.
