Hi guys I read the guide on throttle stop and tried it on my m15x but nothing changes.. I did it on my friends m15x and it worked.. Weird.. And yes I turned it on.. I set it at 90w/80a and 25 on all 4 cores.. But the CPU meter shows that my 940xm is still throttling from 11-18 multipliers?? Any tips?

    Do you have the 6970M at stock clocks (680/900)? The power required to run a 940xm @ 25x (~90W) plus an o/c'ed 6970M (75-100W) can overwhelm a M15x.

Hard to fix a problem when you don't post any screen shots. What sort of load are you running when this throttling is happening? Do you have the Chipset Clock mod checked and set to 100.0%? Post a screen shot of wPrime and ThrottleStop so we can see how your CPU is running at full load.

Wait so if I set all the cores to run at 25.. Does it mean even at idle it will run at 25 all the time or only under load??

Not at idle. Only when Turboboost is activated. If your multipliers are not exceeding 15x or 16x (not sure about the 940xm), then turboboost is probably disabled.

That's the turbo setting, so it's only going to do that under load.

With all do respect, I would read through the guide unclewebb has linked in his sig. Full comprehension is key with a program like this.

You probably need 90W/76A to support a 940xm @ 25x, so you're fine on that account. However, your 940xm is throttling; see the Chipset Clock Modulation column at 62.5%? That's reducing the load to 62.5% +/- of normal load on each core/thread, while leaving the multiplier at its nominal value. Check the Chipset Clock Mod. box and the Set Multiplier box in Throttlestop. That will stop the throttling, but watch the temps. They will go up substantially, but your 940xm will really be running at a true 25x. It will throttle some around 95C and will shut down at 100C to prevent damage if the cooling is not up to the load. Uncle Webb can provide a much more educated explanation of what's happening and why. Or, check the ThrottleStop Guide.

Instead of checking the Clock Modulation box, you need to check the Chipset Clock Mod box and make sure that is set to 100%. I think the newer version of ThrottleStop in my sig can handle this type of throttling better than the version of ThrottleStop you are using. I also like checking the Set Multiplier box and setting that as high as possible until it says Turbo.

A CPU being throttled to 62.5% on all 8 threads is definitely not a good thing. The maximum multiplier is showing 26 so try reducing that to 24 and run a wPrime test on all 8 threads and see if you can maintain that multiplier without the heat going through the roof. If that works out then step up to 25 and test again. Watching to see if your wPrime times improve is a good way to see if your adjustments are increasing performance or just causing more throttling.

There is a lot of CPU performance waiting to be unlocked but it's a balancing act between heat and power consumption. When pushing hard you can trip your power adapter so it will stop charging. If this happens just power cycle it by unplugging it and plugging it back in. Have fun with your new beast.

Hey Unclewebb is it possible for you to email me a copy of the new TStop? Im currently deployed and techinferno is blocked like 99% of most websites on a government network.
