Hes hyped because he already has one lol... Supposedly heat is very good; better than GTX 675m, maxes at very low 70's [which is perfectly legit, my GTX 560m used to hit 74 max and is literally less than half of this cards performance].

Ntrain...i took it apart just to give you a screenshot...enjoy :)

2 pics attached. On the one with 2 vid cards. You'll notice that the vid card on the right (on the brown pcb) is the 6990m

The newer 7970m is on a blue pcb on the left

Could you be so kind as to zoom in on the blue board on the left(use macro function on camera)so that the #'s on the gpu's die are legible? :D

LOL! The hand written "Ntrain" wasnt necessary, but its all good, lol

Man, freakin technology! Once again, I'm literally a month late for the next big thing. I Just upgraded to the 6970m. Before that It took me a long time to upgrade to the 5850m. The second I did that, the 6970m was out.....Im now waiting for the HD40000M for my next upgrade....which I'm sure wont be too long by the way things are going...

I might be getting a Dell 7970m in the coming week. You guys think it will be possible to run crossfire 7970m´s without somekind of mod?

I have Intel i7-940xm in my M15x with ATI 5850, I wanna upgrade to 7970 but do I need to be beware of heat?

I know I cannot go with 580m as it will exceed thermal design but is 7970 doable? or should i just get a 6990 and be done with it ?

The 7970 Heat is showing lower in systems than the 6990 per SlickDude's tests.

The performance is no kidding indeed : AMD Radeon HD 7970M - Notebookcheck.net Tech

On Slickdude test it have even better temp, maybe 28nm is indeed help compare to 40nm..

Of course it helps its 28nm compared to 40nm; its 70% smaller; it should be at least a noticeable amount cooler. Probably 5-10C in my opinion.

I had a GTX 560m in P151HM and it would get up to 74C while playing video games like BF3. Hopefully this thing will stay below 70C, 65C would be very nice.

hhhmmm not sure if he`s running 940xm but my m15x just ran out of warranty so don`t wanna get a 7970 and then cry if it exceeds thermal envelop :(

But I am highly interested in the prospect of 940xm + 7970m :D

I am more concerned with TDP or Thermal envelop or Thermal rating than temps. Laptop as only been used on table top as a desktop and cannot see it changing anytime soon.

It came with 150W power brick but I do have a spare 240W so no probs there.

The performance is just like I have been telling for some time last year when I was around. We will be seeing a jump greater than what we saw between the mobile 5870 and 6970M

Don't know if the dell configurator showing 100 watt is absolute, power figures should be lower than that. 75-80 Watts at max.

This has been talked about over and over: The brick will work, but the limiting factor is the board, not the brick. The machine will draw the same, the 240w will just run cooler.

    Oh my lord...

I literately have a GTX 560m on the way to put in my m15x.
And you people tell me I can get this card now?!

I am very much anxiously waiting for someone to post a guide or at least some testing results, like if i'd be needing to mod drivers, and what not.

I see a bunch of people putting in their m17x's but I cannot wait to see the m15x running smooth with this.
    I'm already pissing myself.

no need to do stock. that was to say that it already beat down one of the top contending scores which was over clocked to pretty much max. and that was a single card run. dual cards is only 8855 by me.

but this was to be expected already, just by what is happening in the desktop world. 7970m's contender is the 680m not the 580m.

Well Nvidia seems to think the 675M is the contender.. and we all know what that is. :p

Don't think anyone was expecting the sheer power of the 7970M, especially how AMD was so quiet about it.

If I remember correctly, it happened that way in the last go round with the M18x. NVIDIA showed up late to the party packing more heat than AMD's best. Hopefully, it will go the same way this time. I cannot imagine NVIDIA not releasing any new mobile GPU for their enthusiasts. Nothing I have seen them write about suggests the GTX 675M is the best we're going to see from them this year. The GTX 675M is last year's technology with a new name, LOL.

Nvidia will do the same thing all over again. The 680M should be 5-10% faster on average but at what price. Personally, I'm bored. :(
