    Hey all,

just wondering if this 6970m from an M18X will work in my M15X?

    Dell Alienware HD 6970M MXM3.0 | eBay

I'm wanting some better frame rates in Crysis 2 (and awaiting 3).
    Currently getting 12-30fps @1080p in Crysis 2.

What rates could I potentially recieve if this 6970m would fit?

    Cheers. :)

    Depends of your 5850's overclock.
If 5850 at stock clock's, 6970 will be ~50% faster.

Heh, I also watched for this lot )))))
This card would fit to M15x.

This is true according to most benchmarks, the difference is remarkable.

    5850 is at stock clocks.

What's the best way to overclock to 5850? Is it more worthwhile upgrading or overclocking my current card?

I'd say overclock first and see if your happy with it or still wanting more. A safe overclock would be 750/1100 with no voltage change. Bear in mind though that not all cards are created equal. I use sapphire trixx to overclock. Very simple, open the program after downloading, just move the sliders and hit apply (you can save up to 4 profiles). Keep trixx running and use hwinfo64 to monitor temps.

As always overclock at your own risk, and always increase in low increments (for stability).

Yeah, this card does not like overclocking.
I can do 750/1000 well, but after gameplay the screen flickers. I should also note that I have an external monitor via VGA connected for extender screen.

@800/1000 the screen turns into vertical green lines.

    Temps around 75C each time.

When you overclocked to 800/1000 did you increase the voltage to 1.05 or 1.1, if not you should. I had the same result trying to oc that much without increasing voltage. After increase, smooth sailing and still able to play current games 1080p high/ultra settings.

Btw what driver are you on? I've found 11.7 to be the most stable and best performance wise as well.

Where in australia are you? Im in melb.

When overclocking, try leaving the memory at stock and increase the core alone first.

If I had the money, then sure... I'm just wanting to squeeze another yearish out of this to eventually get a desktop (I do a lot of video editing/3D, need a bit more grunt... just got 920XM)

Well bugger... Graphics driver 8.9... Blody old! Just updating to 12.0.

    i'll try those levels.

    I'm in Melbourne too.

EDIT: AMD Driver verification tool 12.0, driver 9.2

    Thanks for the info.
