[help] Alienware M17x R2

I know this forum is for M15x, but you guys are more friendly..

So what is the best GPU UPGRADE for M17x R2 ? (for sli)
Will i suffer from hot cpu temperature if i get 920XM for this M17x R2 ?

For sli it's 680M SLI Afaik, for Crossfire it's R9 M290X...
If you overclock it will get hot just like any other cpu, make sure you have a good thermal paste.

 

Edit, just remembered that M290X has a different CF connector, so max would be 8970M or 7970M

 

8970M does not give native fan control, only dell 7970m and clevo v1.2 7970m give native fan control. 680m works as well native fan control. 780M works after screwing around with onboard audio, but 680m has not issues with audio (different irqs being used)

 

There's no diffencente in temperature using 920xm from m15x to m17x ?
My Gtx 765M will work on this m17x r2 ?Can it be usable in SLI ?
i'm asking because i already have one in my m15x..

How many HD can i use without remove CD drive?
What is the original PSU ? the guy send me a 150w PSU, i dont think this can handle the power for sli or crossfire but ok..

It will run a little cooler on the m17x cos of the bigger cooler.

765M doesnt work on m17x r2 afaik, i had a K3100M thats almost identical and i know it wouldnt work no matter what.

Max 16gb (2×8gb) it has 2 slots.

Max 2 hdds without odd caddy.

Original psu is 150w and 240w, 150w only came with laptop that didnt had dual graphics or extreme cpu.

I n3ver had native fan with any of the 7970M's (all dell) and i've tried about 5 different ones. None had native fan control... :/ kinda got used to using hwinfo64 to control them so its not a problem.... Just rmember to disable battery readings

No problem. I think you will need to mod a 330W or make a dual 240W psu for 7970M with 920XM overclocked.

I got another question GTX 260M will work on Alienware M17x R3 ?
The device maneger have detected the card, but i cannot install the driver on Windows 10!
The reason why i'm trying to use GTX 260M on M17x R3 are just for testing if this card still working!
This GTX 260M came with Alienware m17x R2, but this R2 are not working, so i'm just testing all components !

 

No, but if you check the M17x R2 7970M crossfire instalation thread (M17x subforum) i'm sure it will be there somewhere

You need to modify the inf file to make the drivers install, it's just an nvidia thing :/
