in terms of performance what fullsized desktop graphics card does the 335m compare to? and guesses? im asking because im looking at some minimum spec requirements for some games and it only describes the requirements for full sized graphics cards.

The easiest way to compare, if you are comparing game req, would be to test your m11 on the following site,
    Can You Run It?

A better way is to make a thread about the game and ask others what fps they are getting.

I would say it runs UT3 as good as a 8800GT.

Really? I thought desktop version of HD5850 is far more superior than GT335M.
Edit: sorry I thought it's 5850 lol, 5650 should be on par with GT335M

I'm not sure but look at those System Requirements of Diablo III

    So maybe the GT335 ~ NVIDIA® GeForce® 260 or ATI Radeon™ HD 4870???

    Compared to desktop counterparts, the GT335m (72 stream processors @ 450MHz) is weaker than a GT240 (96 stream processors @ 550MHz) and faster than GT220 (48 stream processors @ 625MHz).

also, desktop GT430 is even faster with 96 stream processors @700MHz

Also remember, that the equivalent level of graphics cards for desktop computers are typically asked to run monitor resolutions of 1680x1050 or 1920x1080. Meanwhile, the nVidia 335M in an Alienware M11x R1 / R2 is going to run at a resolution of 1366x768.

Honestly, the best way to check "How will Game XYZ run on an Alienware M11x?" is to just come to these Alienware M11x forums. It's a very active forum, and people usually post info on framerates, graphics settings, graphics tweaks to get the most performance, etc on game launch day.

A desktop 5650? I don't believe there is a such thing. The 335 is comparable to a mobility 5650 though.

The gt240 desktop GPU has 96 shaders, higher clocks speeds, and GDDR5...

It's not comparible (it's not even comparible to the old 8800gs - the good one with 96shaders, that is...), even with overclocking the GT335m.

The GT540m could compare against it, however.

The HD5550 desktop GPU would probably be the best card to compare vs the GT335m. Or just something more powerful than the desktop gt220 but weaker than the desktop gt240, leaning closer to the gt220.

um no. the gt 220 is a piece of crap. lol.

the gt240 is also older then the gt335m. checkout the 4650.

the entire 300 line is rebranded, and in many cases, cut down, 200 parts.
I dare you to find a 300 part which doesn't use the core of a 200 series part.
